Chevy Equinox Or Gp

My girlfriend is looking at getting a Chevy Equinox or something in the GM lineup that is remotely similar (Vue, Torrent, Acadia). There are 2 that are here in town that are for sale and was wondering what MyMonte thought about them. She is looking at spending under $14,000. She loves these, but if we can't find one she wants, she will be looking at getting a 04+ GP.

http://www.eriks.gmpsdealer.com/VehicleDetails/604906423

I'm pretty sure we can get the blue one down to $14-$15K but she really likes the silver one.

Also, does anyone know of a good forum for the Equinox? Or does anyone know of any problems they have? We have looked at both at the dealership, and both have moisture in the passenger headlight, but that looks like it is it on the outside.

Edit: This is the GP GXP she is looking at

I found a cheap, nice low mileage, in 8/10 shape 97 Lumina LTZ on Kijiji the other day. I took it out for a test drive lastnight, and WOW, it definitely made me miss my old Lumina LTZ... So I'm picking it up tommorow morning . It is pretty clean for its age, and it has a bit of surface rust around the gas tank door, but these days, which car doesnt.... It needs a few things for safety check, but I cant beat the price I got it for! Heres a couple pictures of it.

Front End Rip Out?

Hey guys, after looking forever I finally found a transmission in a junkyard that I can rebuild for my car. Last one I found they said would cost $800 just to get it, F*** that, I went to a new Junkyard around me $85 for transmission. I found a 95 Monte z34 with 150xxx on it. so this is my chance. I'm going tomorrow to attempt to take out the transmission with a friend. Just wondering some quick ways to get it out. I care not for the car cause its junk so I have no problem tearing it apart to get to the transmission. What are some of the easiest ways to get it out, I don't have a huge arsenal of tools so ill have to drop it from under the car (no cherrypicker) im i just looking for 2 engine mounts and subframe bolts? and thats it or is there more to get it out.

I am new to this forum, hoping to get the correct answer about intake manifold replacement for my monte. 2 parts stores & 2 junk yards ALL gave different answers! I need to replace my

PLASTIC manifold...call to order parts & I was told...Is it upper or lower? That year only has lower. That year has upper & lower. Those parts cant be bought aftermarket. Those parts can

only be bought from manufacturer. My favorite...WELL THE COMPUTER DOESNT SAY UPPER OR LOWER SO IT HAS TO BE UPPER!

We are trying to fix it ourselves and can't even get the answers we need. HELP!!!!!

New Stalling Issue, Heeelp!

Okay I responded to a post of another MyMonte.com user who is having the exact same problem as me. However, I wanted to create a new topic post because I have a lot of documented details that may help both of us solve this problem.

So the issue is that my car stalls on me.

I need serious Help!! The dealership cannot find anything wrong with the car. And as bad luck would have it, everytime I take it in there, they cannot get the car to die on them.

I have a 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo SS (Series II 3800 V6)

At first it was only happening at idle or very low speeds of 5MPH or less. The car would either restart in 1 try, or it would take me about 8 tries to get it to restart. But it always restarts.
Now the car can die at any time. Just recently it died on me when I was on the freeway going 55MPH. The car just shuts off, no power, nothing, I end up just coasting to the side of the road and restarting it. Also I get no check engine light. Lately I have got a Red Battery light after it dies on me. But that just may be a product of the car being dead in the water, and not what is actually causing the car to die.

Other things I have noticed: The car seems to run rough sometimes and seems to shift much harder. When it runs rough, I know it will die on me once I get it going. One time I was stopped at a stoplight and the engine started to Rev all by itself, and the would drop down to almost 0 RPM's then go all the way up to 2,000 RPM's and back down to 0 again. Most of the time when it dies I am at a stop sign or stoplight and as soon as I take my foot off the brake and hit the gas, the car dies. Recently when i have been on the freeway it seems to have problems when I try to accelerate above 50MPH and has died on me 2 times when trying to accelerate above that speed.

I have replaced my Fuel Regulator, I have had full electronic diagnostic done 3 times now, I have checked the MAF and had it cleaned. I have checked my Air Filter and cleaned that. The dealership is at a complete loss, they are getting no codes, and the car runs just fine when they hook it up to their diagnostic equipment, even when driving on the freeway. They have not been able to get the car to die on them. It dies on me everyday, I do not understand how it does not die on them. They have even had it for 2 days now and drove it 6 different times. Rotten Rotten luck.

There is all the information. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS OF WHAT IT MIGHT BE???!!! I simply cannot drive this car on any long trips now, its just too damn dangerous. I need help here. Any thoughts on what might be wrong with the car would be useful.

Tune Up Time

I treated the Monte(99'LS) to some new plugs and wires today. I got AC Rapidfire #14 plugs (the older style performance plugs), and a set of AC Delco Packard wires. I had Taylor 8mm wires that were about 3 years old,and in fair shape. I ohmed them and came up with 1.5 ohms( new ones measured .7 ohms) I went with the factory spec wires and plugs because I didn't see much of a difference with the Taylors or with the platinum plugs that were in it.
What a difference, at 232,500 miles the Monte feels like a teenager again!

I want to redo my box because the idiot before me made it out of plywood, and im pretty sure its not built to spec. in looking at the specs from JL's web site, i just wanted to make sure that i was reading this right. I have the 12w6, so is it saying i need two ports? Link is below. Also, when you make a port, or heck even a box, I know that you want to make it to a certian frequency. I guess im not sure what frequency to build it to, if i should just build the box that jl suggests, or what.

also, this is a DVC sub, and im kinda stumped on how to wire it to the amp. the amp is a 4 channel, 1000 watt. i think i know how, but i dont wanna mess something up, or not get the full potential. The amp is bridgable, and its obvesouly channel 1 and 2, and then 3 and 4.
This is the "make-up" for the December 12, 2009, radio show I hosted. That evening, WRMN had issues with its online streaming; only people in the greater Elgin IL area were able to listen. I also hosted the show December 19, 2009, and a holiday edition (all Christmas music) the afternoon of Christmas Eve, December 24. I pay WRMN to host these shows to play songs that bring back memories, even if the whole world has forgotten:

Mymonte.com Decals

So we have gotten a good amount of requests on this lately. While we used to sell MyMonte.com decals we no longer do and have had to turn away the few folks requesting them.

Mainly the problem was that people were not willing to pay $5 for a 15" decal and we found it very difficult to have a worth while profit on pennies a sticker that most seemed to want to pay.

So I want to hear what the community thinks.

Please take a moment to answer the above poll. It will help us in considering if and how we might start selling decals again.
Feel free to post your thoughts/ideas below.

3Rd Brake Light Wiring Issue?

ok, so, the other day, i went to the junkyard and picked up a 3rd brake light off of a 2001 lumi. I got it so i can convert the 3rd brake light to led to match my tails, so my question is, when i cut the bulbs off (so i can make sure about the wiring), this is where i hit my issue. from the drivers side light, there are 3 wires... two yellow and one black, and the pass has one yellow and one black. These wires all come from the drivers side brake light, because that's the yellow wire side. My question is, does anyone know why the drivers side has a 3rd wire? i thought it was a taillight, but then realized it doesn't light up with them, so does anyone know what it is?

I've heard of sniping but there's so many ones I don't know which one to use, what do you guys recommend?

Swap Is Comming...

So im almost ready for a swap, i am picking up a motor and trans in the next few weeks then all i need to find is a harness. (which i have $300 sitting in my bank waiting for a harness to show up haha). But as far as the swap goes, this is what i found what i need. Remember i am swapping it into a 1996 Lumina with a 3100. Also make note - This is obviously copy and pasted from motorswap.com and they have 1997-1999 as the title. Is there any true difference between 1996 and 1997 vehiciles. 1996 is OBD2 so i dont see what the difference could be. I have searched to find other things i would need, and i found bassically everything.

Can anybody see anything i would need additionally to this:

1997-1999 Cutlass/Monte Carlo/Lumina
2. 4T65E HD Transmission
3. 4T65E HD Transmission Lines
4. 4T65E HD Transmission Axles (yes, i know the custom axle i must do)
5. L67 PCM From Donor Car
6. L36 High-Pressure Power Steering Line
7. L67 Downpipe
8. L67 Coolant Hoses (New)
9. Walbro High-Pressure Fuel Pump 255 ltr/hr or greater (stock pump will work of low HP appilcations)
10. Upper and Lower Radiator Hoses
11. Heater core lines
12. Belts

Torque Converter Questions..

Hey guys its been a long time since I've been around got crazy busy with life, haven't really done much to the monte in years feels like.. well i finaly hit some bad luck and last week it started acting up. what seemed to be a tranny problem, not as quick to respond to peadle movement, sluggish taking off and gaining speed, and there is a humming type noise that comes and goes here and there. sounds just like a power steering pump when its acting up but its definatly coming from the tranny side of the engine, the noise comes and goes both while driving and while sitting parked, the tranny itself still shifts and drives fine except for the rpm's running about 1-1.5k higher than what its always been.. I've already been by a transmision shop and his opinion was that the torque converter had been gutted and needed replaced, estimated 3 days to fix and $300 labor cost for having to drop the subframe and pull the tranny out, flush and clean it, with a $200 price on a new stock converter on top of the labor...

so now that im already out the labor cost im wanting to go ahead and upgrade the converter so that i dont have to go threw this problem again later, i've looked around on zzp, intense, milzy's at the upgrade options but this is something i really havent messed with much so need help matching the best option for the upgrade.. right now im running a 3800 with complete msd system, dhp pcm with adjustable timing and a/f ratio, 55hp shot of nitrous, intense shift kit, and couple other bolt ons, i do have future plans to do a l67 top end swap and up the shot a bit and of course at that point an engine rebuild with better internals.. i want it to be a street/strip type of setup..

How much of a stall should i upgrade to for best results and also by changing the converter like that is it gonna affect the pcm will it need any kind of reprograming to adjust? and by upgrading it what if any are the added risks of it putting more strain on the rest of the stock tranny, i dont wanna have to turn around and replace something else for making to big of an upgrade, any and all suggestions, tips, info, knowhow, whatever will be much much appreciated, i need to get the part ordered so i can get it fixed. sorry for such a long post but thanks again and let me know..

Basic Shop Tools Explained...

I saw this on another forum, thought it was a good read

Tools Explained

DRILL PRESS:

A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, denting the freshly-painted project which you had carefully set in the corner where nothing could get to it.

WIRE WHEEL:

Cleans paint off bolts and then throws them somewhere under the workbench with the speed of light. Also removes fingerprints and hard-earned calluses from fingers in about the time it takes you to say, "Oh, sh*t!"

SKILL SAW:

A portable cutting tool used to make studs too short.

PLIERS:

Used to round off bolt heads. Sometimes used in the creation of blood-blisters.

BELT SANDER:

An electric sanding tool commonly used to convert minor touch-up jobs into major refinishing jobs.

HACKSAW:

One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board principle... It transforms human energy into a crooked, unpredictable motion, and the more you attempt to influence its course, the more dismal your future becomes.

VISE-GRIPS:

Generally used after pliers to completely round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand.

OXYACETYLENE TORCH:

Used almost entirely for lighting various flammable objects in your shop on fire. Also handy for igniting the grease inside the wheel hub out of which you want to remove a bearing race..

TABLE SAW:

A large stationary power tool commonly used to launch wood projectiles for testing wall integrity.

HYDRAULIC FLOOR JACK:

Used for lowering an automobile to the ground after you have installed your new brake shoes, trapping the jack handle firmly under the bumper.

BAND SAW:

A large stationary power saw primarily used by most shops to cut good aluminum sheet into smaller pieces that more easily fit into the trash can after you cut on the inside of the line instead of the outside edge.

TWO-TON ENGINE HOIST:

A tool for testing the maximum tensile strength of everything you forgot to disconnect.

PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER:

Normally used to stab the vacuum seals under lids or for opening old-style paper-and-tin oil cans and splashing oil on your shirt; but can also be used, as the name implies, to strip out Phillips screw heads.

STRAIGHT SCREWDRIVER:

A tool for opening paint cans. Sometimes used to convert common slotted screws into non-removable screws and butchering your palms.

PRY BAR:

A tool used to crumple the $200 metal surrounding that clip or bracket you needed to remove in order to replace a 50 cent part.

HOSE CUTTER:

A tool used to make hoses too short.
HAMMER:

Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object you are trying to hit.

UTILITY KNIFE:

Used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard cartons delivered to your front door; works particularly well on contents such as seats, vinyl records, liquids in plastic bottles, collector magazines, refund checks, and rubber or plastic parts. Especially useful for slicing work clothes, but only while in use..

Just thought I would mention 4 cyl mode..

Only had the car for 5 hours, but so far im loving 4 cylinder mode..Or Active Fuel Management as GM calls it...4 cylinders shut down, and the V8 runs in V4 mode, running on cylinder 1,2,3,4...So far I noticed today that under light accelaration, or in while just cruising along, 4 cyl mode will turn on at about 35 to 40mph, and normally stay on unless there is medium to heavy acceleration, or going up a steep hill...While cruising, mileage is 26 at the lowest, and 29 at the highest..Definitly something I like, as where I live every road has a speed limit of 35 to 40...So far I have noticed no noticeable lag when gunning it while in 4 cylinder mode..

Other impressions...
Handling - I don't know if it's the larger wheels/rims or what, but this thing hugs the ground wayyy better than my 01 did...On tighter turns while accelerating, I had no problem navigating them, whereas if I was in my 01 i would have had to had a somewhat hard grip on the steering wheel and been continuosly turning it..

Steering - Not sure if this is just cause it's newer or what, but the steering is also better..Takes less effort to turn(not that that is a problem for me, just stating it as a plus ) and also seems a little bit more responsive.

Seats - Much higher quality leather..Seats are also much more comfortable, giving more lumbar support(big thing for me)...Gave a few of my closer friends a ride and this was the first thing they all said when they sat down.

Don't plan on doing much to the engine really, Because of the inherently weak transmissions and all the horror stories i've heard about them..Looking into getting a transmission cooler, but Not sure, I'll have to research it a little more...Or the aluminum pan that ZZP sells.

Will probably get black rally stripes, tints, the projector headlights, and possibly red L.E.D. tails..but im not sure on them, I actually really like the 06-07 tails.

Gauge Cluster With Leds

Been wanting to do a LED conversion for my gauge clusters but haven't had to time to do till it got warmer out. So with summer getting here, I figured it was time. I found what size I need, 194 bulbs, with a wedge that will do into the base plus ones that emit light from all sides. My only question is which ones do I need, according to: http://autolumination.com/194.htm. I really cba to pull my gauge cluster out and look because it's a real pain to put back in. Mainly just the type of wedge I'm lost on. I had to do this for my HVAC controls and ended up getting the wrong ones. Boy what a pain that was.....

I know many of you guys have done LED bulb conversions for your gauge clusters. Anyone mind pointing me to the right type of 194 bulbs I need?

Random Squeaking

First off, i did search, and didnt find what i was looking for. Now, my problem. starting a day ago, I will hear a random squeaking from the front drivers side tire. doesnt happen when i brake, so im sure its not that my brake pads are getting low. it only seems to happen at lower speeds, under 30. Also after a ten min drive, it seems to not squeak as much, if at all.

So, what do you think?
