Want to make a sig or do a photochop but have no idea where to start?

Well the first step is to get some software. There are plenty of options out there, some free, some not so free. Here are some of the better choices for image editing.

OPTION 1
Your first option is what you already have installed on your computer. Every Windows machine has a program called "Paint"

Click Start > Run > Type "mspaint" > Click OK

The program is simple and very limited but it gets the job done for very basic things.

OPTION 2
If you have Microsoft Office you should also have the Microsoft Photo Editor. More advanced than Paint but still very limited in what you can do.

OPTION 3
The next option is absloutly free ,and most likely the best FREE, photo and digital imaging software suite availble. Called simily "The Gimp". The Gimp is Open Source software so its free for you to use on as many machines as you wish.

The Gimp is availble for multiple operating systems:
Windows 9x/ME/2k/XP : http://www.gimp.org/windows/
MacOS X : http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/
Unix/Linux : http://www.gimp.org/unix/

Here is the main Gimp home page:
http://www.gimp.org

And this page has many tutorials on using Gimp
http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/

OPTION 4
Another free option, that I havent tried myself though it has gotten rave reviews by the communtiy, is Picasa by Google. This is a combination editor and type manager.

A type manager (in this case image type files) manages files of a particular type and helps you to orgnaize, find, edit and access your images in one easy to use program.

Try it out and post here to let us know how it is.

http://picasa.google.com/index.html

MORE FREE OPTIONS
There are tons more free options out there so feel free to try many out and find one you like. Here is an article talking more about the various free packages available:

http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/imageedit...reephotoedw.htm

OPTION 5
If you have the money to burn, the absloute best package out there is Adobe Photoshop CS2. This is where the term "photochop" orignated from.

In its 9th version, this software has evolved for over a decade to become the industry standard for professionals and amatures alike. There are many advanced features as well as an endless sea of expansions. If your serious about digital photography or imaging this should be your ONLY choice.

Adobe Photoshop Home Page: http://www.adobe.com...oshop/main.html

http://www.photoshop...otoshopcs2.html
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=...p+tutorials+CS2

Other cool photo tools and services:

Of course there are many more options that sit between the Free options and the Photoshop however I havent really used anything else (Im a Photoshop CS user myself) so please post here and let everyone know more options they have available.

I downloaded the trial version of Photoshop CS2, then searched for the serial/crack and applied it. Voila, it's free, and better than Gimp.

Note to law enforcement types: The "I" that I referred to was not me, but a friend of mine.

CS is v8.0 they just stopped going by version numbers. CS2 came out a few months ago which is 9.0

CS has better automation tools, layer grouping and some interface enhancements, full raw image support, better histograms. Addational smoother and shaper options. Color Matching, shadow and highlight control. New Lense Blur filter. Addational color filters geard to digital photos. Better filter control panels and more little things throughout. Overall much better.

Hey Fordfox, you got that serial/crack? Emule was kinda slow today

I installed gimp, but i still cant figure out how to use it! Maybe CS2 would be easier.

phothshop CS is a professional tool, its not much easier and takes alot of reading and expiermentation to get right.

I suggest checking out some of the tutorials on Gimp they are pretty well written.

The tutorials are cool, but thats not what i want to know.

Lets say I want to change the color of my car. So I open the file. If I manage to get the part selected that I want to change, whenever I click on another tool that I want to use within the selection, the selection disappears! Also, I dont understand this whole thing about "layers." Are layers in gimp similar to layers in datacad?

better get used to layers, its the same thing in CS. Its different layers of an image, you can put different elements of an image on various layers and apply different effects and properties to each layer.
