I'm thinking that in a while after I save up a bit I might try to get a Monte SS..... Anyone know 0-60 and 1/4 mile times? It would help my decision, I just realized these suckers are FWD :twak:

0-60 in around 5 seconds I believe. They are FWD but damn they are pretty quick and pretty affordable too. I was thinking about trading my '99 in for one myself. They also have supposedly no torque steer according to some automotive publications thanks to a new improved engine cradle.

That's not bad, and it is especially affordable... I wonder if they have any performance parts for this baby already

no bolt ons yet but just about every mod for an LSx valve train should apply to this engine.

Depends on options and such but generally $26,000-32,000 depending on where you live. And since they aren't selling I would think that you could get a nice one for around $27,000 if you know how to talk to them.

I wonder why these things don't sell like hot cakes, they are affordable performance cars. It is still early to decide, I can see them selling a lot more SS's next year.

Cars Direct lists a base SS at $25,800. With agressive buying, you could probably get $25,000. If a family member who owns a chevy co-signs, drop another $1000 in loyalty rebate. With good credit you could get an online New Car loan at like 5%, though it would probably be cheaper in the long run to take 0% financing through Chevy if your credit is bulletproof. You usually either get a $1000 rebate or 0% financing. When Chevy needs sales the rebate kicks up to $2000, but I doubt the SS will be around that long. So, best case is:

$24,000 + tax and 5% interest
or
$25,000 + tax and 0% interest

plus costs for upgrades, the base costs of which are listed in Cars Direct. I would add leather and side airbags for about $1000. Also, check where you can get the least tax. Frex, here in Cook county I would pay about $2000 in tax alone. In Will county, tax would cost only about $1500.

Honestly its not THAT great of a deal...

For 30 grand take your pick

2006 SS Impala / Monte / GXP

2006 Subaru STI

2006 Mitsubishi Evo

2006 Dodge Charger R/T - 5.7L Hemi 340 Hp RWD etc etc

personally ide take the STI / Evo over both, but if those werent in the choices the new Charger RT definately takes the hand over the SS, just take a look and compare the two and youll see what i mean

Did that, and the gas mileage of the Dodges just killed it for a daily driver. Anyway, get the Magnum for cheaper with the same sports upgrades if you need the Dodge.

You could get a 06 Mustang GT for about 25 grand if you wanted... 300 hp V8, 5 Speed manual etc..

OR

If your really feeling fiesty, the 2004 Mustang COBRA was about 30 grand brand new... Supercharged V8, RWD.. 400 HP, you know the drill

Does the '06 SS V8 engine have the highway cruse mode where it shuts off some cylinders to sip fuel?

yes, it has the DOD.. errrr, Active Fuel Management as they call it now... (hmm, I wonder if they changed it on the engine cover too?? LOL)

anything between 20/25 mph - 70/75mph, and just cruising with no load on the engine, it will run on just 4 cylinders...

As my daily driver, I do 50/50 between city and highway, and my average is 20/21 mpg...

It goes higher if I baby it and just keep my foot off the throttle, but who can do that??!!

Like 06SSMonte says "Definitely fast, definitely torque steer" 303hp will torque steer you right into the next lane if you’re not hanging on. When I first got it I almost hit a few cars passing on the freeway. I got mine with every available option for 29k. I have yet to see another one around though. Kind of strange. Mine really sticks out being bright red and having the zylone (sp) treatment makes it even brighter.

I love my 06 monte ss! Got it for $17k (traded in my lifted 03 silverado z71) plus gm discount. Absolutly amazing. Just about to put a K&N cold air intake into it. Silver with all the upgrades.
