I've had my 06 SS a little over a year now, and have almost 12,000 miles on it. For anybody considering buying one, I highly recommend it. It's a blast to drive, no one know's what is is or what's in it, it sounds great, and it gets about 21 mpg (and I use all 303 hp regularly). A word of caution though for anyone who intends on test driving one. Be very carefull when accelerating hard. If the front wheels are not perfectly straight, the car will get away from you in a flash. This is not a car for novice drivers. It's too bad Chevy doesn't market this car at all. It's really a very nice car for the money. I've only seen maybe four or five new style Montes on the road, and only one SS. The car has amazing power and acceleration. What I really like is having the ability/power to get away from situations and drivers. Passing is almost too easy. There are a few complaints though. I'm not crazy about the wheels, the rear view mirror interferes with visibility, and the premium sound system isn't very premium sounding.

Do you have the optional 8-speaker sound system?

Yes, along with the 200 watt amp (mounted in the trunk). The eight speaker description is very misleading. There aren't eight separate speaker locations. There are either four or six, I forget, but some of the speaker locations have a speaker inside a speaker. I believe the premium sound system on the Impala SS is much better. I sure like those heated seats though. Used them all the way to work yesterday and today. It was -18 yesterday morning. The old 327 was cranking out so much exhaust vapor I could hardly see out the rear window.

I've got heated seats in my truck and I even use them down here in southern FL. It was only 50 degrees yesterday morning! ...but you probably don't want to hear about that.

I feel the same way about the rims. I hated them at first, but they are starting to grow on me. I was thinking about ordering some aftermarket rims and have the dealer put them on before I take delivery. But then I started thinking about the tire pressure sensors inside the rims and I don't think I want to mess with those on a brand new car. So now I decided to just order it with the high-polished rims and just live with them.

I can't wait to sell my car so I can place my order. If Chevy comes out with better incentives I may consider just trading it in, but I'd rather not.

The polished rims are growing on me too. You are correct in not wanting to mess with the tire pressure sensors. After I had my tires rotated by a Chevy dealer, I had to return twice because they screwed one of the sensors up. When you order your SS be sure and ask about the silver rocker paint option. Not too many people are aware of it, and I think it makes the car look a lot better.

I agree with most of the first statement. I find it very difficult not to use the engine's fullest potential, even when just driving it around town. God I love that V8! It is a bit weird to get used to the torque steer. It will make fast acceleration in even the mildest curves "exciting", especially if your not prepared for it! I too ordered the polished rim option. The design of them is kinda ho-hum though. The chromed accessory ones for it from the dealership might look better.
I actually thought I automatically would get the silver painted ground effects since I got the silver rally stripes. Didn't :( Oh well, perhaps I'll just do that in my body shop myself.
I can't stand leather seats. They're high maintainence, slippery, crack ( over time), hot as hell in the summer, and cold in the winter. Even with seat heaters, you have to wait for the seats to do their thing before they are comfortable enough so as to not experience some cold when you sit on them. Plus, the seat backs aren't heated. I opted for the leather seat delete option. I ordered my '07 Red SS with the light grey cloth inter., no moon roof, polished wheels, and Chevy's best sound system. This should actually make mine a little bit quicker based on it's less weight ( no moon roof, no seat heaters, cloth weighs less than leather). I am very pleased with the sound system. It's power output is more than enough for me and the quality of the sound is very nice. Best stock system I ever had.

Steve,

I agree with your comments regarding the leather seats and sunroof. I bought my car off the lot with these options, but would ot order them, and would be perfectly happy without them. The sunroof also reduces head room significantly. Some people won't even buy a car without leather seats though, but I don't get the big attraction. As far as the sound system, maybe chevy upgraded it for '07. I'm not complaining about the power, it's the lack of clarity that I don't like. I was riding in a friends 5 year old Saab, and his factory sound system put mine to shame. Anyway, it sounds like you are enjoying your car as much as I am mine. These cars may be the most under rated and least known performance cars on the market today. I get nothing but rave reviews from people who have seen it. Enjoy.

I may have been in error about the seat backs not heated. My last car was a new '06 Monte LTZ with the leather and moon roof. It had "issues" with it that were very suspicious so after only 85 miles put on by me, I took it back to the dealership and ordered my SS. I only used the seat heaters once, so,ummm, guess I forgot about the seat backs being heated.
I'm only 5'9" and my head was very close to touching the head liner because of the less space available with the moon roof. Weren't they called "sun roofs" back in the 70s & 80s?

really - you were that close to the headliner??

I'm 6', with the sunroof in my SS, and I have an inch or two above my head...

of course, I adjusted the power seat so that it's all the way down, as low as it will go...

A sunroof is any opening in the top of a car that lets light/air through. A moonroof specifically is a sunroof in which the glass panel slides in between the headliner and roof of the car. :?

so then we have a "sunroof" - because it doesn't slide between the headliner and roof... it slides up OVER the roof...

Ah, let the "moon roof" , "sun roof" debate begin! More than "T" tops ( which let in air & day light and any night illumination when removed),I think the term "sun roof " and "moon roof" are two different names for the same thing. It just depends what time of day it's in the open possition. Some call them bumper covers, some call 'em fascias. In the U.K. a car's trunk is a "boot", the "hood" is a "bonet", etc. Those Brits sure have some funny names for things :D

i looked on the chevy site and it looks like both the monte and impala have an 8 speaker option but the impala's is twice the cost and has the name Bose on it.

"sunroof" is the term originally used to describe a metal panel that would only allow light or air in when opened. A "moonroof," on the other hand, is a glass panel that can allow light in even when it is closed (provided, of course, you slide back that nifty fabric-covered panel to expose the glass).

True sunroofs, those made just of metal, appear to have gone the way of 8-tracks in automobiles, and these days, most "sunroofs" are really "moonroofs" -- panels of tempered glass, usually tinted, that tilt up to allow a flow of air, or slide back into the roof entirely, giving the car occupants a brief but tantalizing glimpse of life in a convertible.

The Impala has SS in the headrests...do the Montes?

BTW...the LS4 displacement is listed as 325 cubic inches.

(3.779" bore/2)^2 * pi * 3.622" stroke * 8 cylinders = 3.249 cubic inches.

I just bought my 2007 MC SS on friday and all I can say is "WOW".

I've been driving a 2000 MC SS and the difference between the two cars is night and day. You press the accelerator and you get pressed back into your seat.

I'm happy and my 17 year old son is happy since he had the 2000 SS passed down to him.

With all of the deals going on now with the 2007 models, do yourself a favor and go buy the SS.

I second this. My brother traded a 99 Monte LS for one. I was able to drive it and WOW, was immediately hooked. I love my 99, but I would kill for one of these. Just do not understand why these cars did not catch on. If anyone were to drive one I think they would be sold on it right away. Again, WOW!

I am thinking of getting one when I pay off my 03 in 3 more years. I am looking to get the pace car version with the stripes. The only real question I have is how is the interior materials? Are they cheap like the 6th gens? Because seriously, if its the same cheap sh*t I am not getting that car because I am fed up with the interior of my car.

In 3 years my choices will be the G8 GT, Impala SS, Monte SS, or 08 Grand Prix GTP since my GF just bought a 06 GP base model and I love that car.

My 327 is better. :P Well that and it really is a 327.

LS4 5.3L 325Cu. Bore x Stroke = 3.78 x 3.622

327 5.4L 327Cu. Bore x Stroke = 4 x 3.25

Two very similar engines but very different as well.

LOL...thats in a Camaro though, does that count? If were going to start talking about Camaros then my 526 is better! Bore x Stroke = 4.44 x 4.15 :P

It's all good, I got another Camaro with a little 468 in it that does 5.40's @ 135 all day long in the 8th.

All I'm getting at is a pet peeve of mine. I see or hear 327, I think '62-'69 SBC, not an LS4. Granted my little 327 has been rebuilt and was bored 30 over so it's really technically a 331, but yeah whatever it's a 327.

Oh, and of course it counts.

Now then, 526 you say? That sounds b**chin'. NA, Blown, Juiced, come on out with the details of that monster!

Well since you asked...It's an aluminum keith black olds/chevy block with Alan Johnson billet wedge heads with a Kobelco 14-71 hi-helix superman blower on alky. It's run 4.teens in the 1/8 and 6.40's @ 225 in the 1/4 in the 02 Camaro Outlaw ProMod car we run. That wasn't enough though so we're going to spray it with 2 stages of juice this season. ;)
