I did an extensive search, and couldn't find answers to my problems.

Alright, with that said, my parents agreed, for Christmas, to get me either one expensive thing that I want, or many, smaller, less expensive things that I want. Here's the question, keep the 83k mile 3100 and modify it with the 1500 bucks I'm allowed to spend, or get a 3400 and lightly mod it? I've got a garage and a bay for it.

Also, I've got a 3400 I could buy, but before I do, I have to ask. Can a 3400 out of an impala work on the 3100 base? (Computer, motor mounts, tranny, etc.) My question is, is there a difference between the impala's 3400 and the Monte's or no?

you do NOT need the computer or anything else from the impala 3400.  yes the engine will work.

i would suggest getting a DHP PCM tuned for you car and make sure to splice over the 3400's fuel injectors.

all you need to do is swap over all the 3100 sensors to the 3400 engine, drop in, bolt up, plug in stuff, start car.

pretty simple.

Well, I am now the proud new owner of a soon-to-be high performance 3400. I payed a total of $492.38 for the engine and TB which came out of a totalled Impala that had 29k miles on it. The impala lost the back end of it as someone ran a red light. From the center of the car and forward was in perfect condition. The engine turns over if you get fuel to it, and sounds beautiful.

Now I'm picking it up from Medford next Friday after they pull it out of the car and inspect it. It goes into my workshop, where I'm going to personally strip down the engine, inspect it, and build it back up, possibly with some performance parts. Here's the thing, should I drop the engine in ASAP, or just wait until I can put in all my performance mods (Including a Milzy Motorsports Stage 1 camshaft, maybe a stage 3 if I'm feeling bold and am willing to do all the supporting replacements.) and get as much time out of the 3100 as I can? Any opinions?

Also, where's the 3400 swap web page again? The answer to that question used to be sticky'd to the top of this section of the forums, but seems to have disappeared before I could get the swap page into my favorites.

Where are you located? I found mine on Car-parts.com. It's price isn't listed there, but I called, and, well... yeah. They gave me a quote, I went and took a look, and wow. For a cheap, low-mileage engine that runs that quietly and smooth... I couldn't ask for more. I'm almost afraid to mod it and ruin the smooth running.

i live in Arlington, Texas (between dallas and Fort Worth) i got my car form an auction but some cars they just sell and thats what i did(i would have to be qualified to go to the auction) could have probably got my car cheeper in the auction though, and i only needed one car so why go through all the paper work, but oh well I'm going to part out the grand am when i get what i need i know i will get my money back and more(hey if this swap pays for its self that will be awesome)
