i start the car up tonite and magically it shudders and won't idle properly.  oh i'm thrilled to death.  anyway.  last week sunday i reinstalled the FFP underdrive crank pulley with the screws machined into it to hold the reluctor ring in place.  i also installed a 3.8L alternator overdrive pulley.  i painted both of them metallic red before i installed them.  i noticed that the belt would slide off of one of the ribs of the crank pulley and then slide back on but did not cause any problems.

after installing both items the car has ran fine for a week and now i have no bloody clue what is going on.  my SES light came on and has been blinking like an idiot now.  i took the car home and took the bike instead of taking the car.  i just really want to know what the deal is here.

as far as i know i am the only person that has had and still does have problems after installing the underdrive pulley.  i'm so tweaked right now.

i just needed to vent.  thanks.

can you get a scanner for cheap anywhere for OBD2?  i don't have one myself and it won't run properly for me to get it to Autozone.

i'm also wondering if it could be the crankshaft sensor itself.  a piece of plastic broke off of it the last time the pulley's were swapped due to the helper i had being jumpy and not waiting till i got back from a 5 minute trip to the parts store.

not to make you sound like an idiot, but make sure the pulley is ALL the way one, both of them.

if your belt is slipping off ribs, that means its not lined up correctly.

while your at it, change the cps, any damage to that could cause your issues.

How far is the tensioner in its travel? Sometimes a belt that walks off a pulley can either mean your pullies aren't lined up or the belt is too long.

And a piece of plastic broke off the crank sensor last time? I'd replace that ho.

10:1 it is your CPS!

When you put the ud pulley on did you use a 2x4 and a hammer to make sure it was on?

Or did you just line it up and get the bolt to thread?

A blinking SES usually means misfires.

i'm not sure about the rest of you guys but i HAVE to use a 2x4 or mine will not go on.  it goes on so far but the bolt isn't long enough to pull it on so i have to tap it on until the bolt can catch.  then i use an air ratchet with someone holding the flexplate.  tighten it by hand then double check my torque specs on the bolt.

gave the alternator 2 burps with the impact so that should be good and tight.

with the new crank pulley and the alt pulley i am using the stock length belt as everyone else has done.  unless my tensioner is going bad on me causing it to slip off.

i'm leaning towards it being the crankshaft sensor for some reason.
