While driving to and fro yesterday, I noticed that the thermostat seemed kind of delayed in opening and my engine was reaching some pretty hot temps.

I was looking for a place to pull over and see wtf was going on, but before I did I saw the temp drop a lot within like the minute I wasn't looking at the gauge.

I drove the car this morning, and it was fine. . .but that kind of wierded me out yesterday. Any ideas?

Can't hurt to change it, even though getting it out on the 3100 is a b**ch, took me way longer than it should have on my 3100 to get it changed.  Probably wouldn't hurt to flush out your cooling system and put some fresh coolant in there as well.

ehh I figured.

Hopefully it holds out for a little while longer, that way I can just make a day out of my car. . .because I need to do the brakes too.

Should I go for the 160*, or go for stock?

one hint, a short box wrench will be your best friend. Its also much easier if you take the throttle body off though not really neccassary.

uhh i hate the DOHC....when doing the UD pulley be broke a coolant line...and when doing the t-stat to actually get to the housing you have to diconnect the coolant line fro mthe place which is a total b**ch..so we just kinda bent it out of the way..well he did.  he blames it on the fact that my car dosn't like him.

When I did mine the last time I just took the crossover off! I know some say its harder that way but I found it to work out quite well! Theres only one bolt that it hard to get at on the crossover. I find laying on the engine with a light work pretty good!

Or

I heard that a swivel bit and a extensions works better. Something about being able to reach the bolts without much removal, but I haven't had to change mine since so I'm not sure if that would work!

hardest thing i had to do was the fuel pressure regulator. looking at it looked like an easy change, but noooooooo, i first took the intake, then  the throttle cable and cruse control cable, then the tb, and finally the upper intake manifold. the bam 4 sec. later fuel pressure regulator was off and the new one was on in no time. i recommend you get new fuel injectors if you have to do this. took me four hours to do this. i got my t-stat at the same time, so you could probably tell why i didn't want to mess with it, at that time.

next time save yourself alot of trouble and just pull the plenum off, leave everything connected except the vac lines and just lay it upside down on the drivers side strut tower

Yeah, I ended up taking the throttle body off, as well as that heater line that has the two taps for the throttle body. I mean, it took a few solid hours across a few days after work. Of course I also ran into a nasty snag when I broke the drain plug on my radiator. All in all, the whole process was turned into much more of a pain than it needed to be.
