i was screwing around with my vacuum lines and i first disconnected the vacuum ball and stick a bolt in the line, didn't feel much driving it then i took the line running from the intake manifold and stuck a bolt in it now my car feels like it has another 20 houses at 3500 rpm.  it goes like it normally does and then about 3500 it just takes off.

any reason why?

anyone ever done this before?

and do you think it will hurt my engine?

if you are talking about the small line on your intake manifold then you should put that back on because that is for your transmission so it knows when to properly upshift.

if you are talking about the very large line on the manifold then you should put that back because that is for the brake booster which gives you power brakes.  without them you will need a very large amount of force on the brakes to stop the car.

in either of the two events it needs to be put back on.

yeah, i was driving a little more and found out, shifted higher than normal so it back, but you feel a difference in HP! just i dont pay much attention to the rpms as i should, but I'm usually easy on her rarely over 3k, only hit 5k once in my monte. shes the only car i ever got that i actually liked, so I'm nice to her.

but as soon as I'm ready for the 3400 swap she might see some red line action

yea, the one that goes to the tranny, i believe is a vacuum line that measures determines the shift depending on the amount stress on the tranny at the shiftpoint...if u disconnect it, i would leave it on, feels like a furmer shift, but if u accelerate slowly, it feels like it dumps into the next gear.

i drove about 40,000miles miles with my tranny shifting like that till i pinpointed the that that line was broke, and my car never had any tranny problems, but i like the feel of smooth shifts.

Yeah, I don't think pulling off vaccuum lines is a good way to add hp, just didn't sound right for some reason

thats basicly how some of the cheaper shift kits work by sealing off that vac line. Youll get firmer shifts however your clutches in the trans may not like it much after a while. Most likely it wont hurt anything though.

i dont see more Hp being added by taking off a vaccum line on the intake manifold. most it will do is mess up your idle, vents and brakeing ect

it felt like crap under 3500 rpms, but get it above the rpms just climbed. but i dont want my car to be all screwed up because of it so it's back it's good ol' stock ways.
