Whats up, I'm currently driving a 2003 silverado ss awd 6.0 truck. I love the truck but i absolutly hate the gas mileage. A local dealership has a 06 ss monte black on black with a sunroof and of course the 5.3L Is there anything that i should look for as common problems on these cars? There asking 24k with 17K miles on it which sounds good to me but im not sure where exactly they should be at as far as asking price. Thanx

Nash,

$24K for a 2006 SS seems on the high side to me. I bought my 2006 SS for about that, after rebates incentives etc. I don't know of any real problems. The car takes 93 octane gas, altough I've been using 91 with no problems. It's averaged 21.5 mpg since new according to the car's computer. I've got 15,000 miles on mine and I love it. It's really fun to drive and I've only seen 3 others on the road. Be sure and test drive the car first, as it can be a bear under acceleration

check the nut on the rack and see if it's wet down there. That's where they like to leak.

So this thread is partially old, and partially Really old... but since these topics are rarely updated anyhow:

I test drove an 06 SS today. After driving my grandma's impala ls I was praying that it wouldn't have the same road feel (or extreme lack thereof). Started it up and was pleased by the aggressive tone at idle (though maybe a touch quiet). Interior is bland but comfortable. Was pleased to note once I started driving that it was solid and pretty responsive. Too much traffic to really open her up, but got a right turn on red onto a 45 mph road... moved from about 1/4 throttle to about 3/4 throttle and chirped the tires at about 30mph. Definitely will just spin the tires if you goose it right away. So overall I was pleased with my drive. However this specific car was poorly maintained cosmetically. Door dings, paint swap on bumpers, cracked body kit sideskirt, dirty inside and out, door had that "shut too hard" sound when I closed it. Salesman said this guy comes back yearly to trade a car in and buy a new one.

Needless to say an 06/07 SS is still very much in the running for me. Loved the Red/silver color combo. There's a couple black/black ones I'm looking at but they don't appeal to me as much, black/silver is cool though.

x2 on almost everything cully said... test drove one this week... and went back to drive a g35 to compare them. (never previously drove an SS and have test driven the g35 before)

I love the styling of the g35 alot more but I am shocked to say that the monte has become my first choice.... smothe ride and amazing responsiveness in handling and acceleration....I was really shocked by its feel, especially compared to the g35's feel... not have your ass rumbled by every little bump.....
then when you compare :

v6 < v8
278hp < 303 hp
17/23 mpg < 18/27 mpg

im sold on it... the time is coming closer and closer... Ive been listing my car for sale locally and on craigslist for a few months now for a high amount (being that i was in no rush and wanted to have enough $$ to pay cash for a new car)... had a couple near misses, three people drive out here to look at it, etc but as I am saving more and more, my asking price is coming back down to a more reasonable level... My target is $14-$17 which is very doable for an 06/07 ss

here are some pics of the one i drove (it was the closest one to me on autotrader). My color choices would be black with silver gfx, and then red with silver gfx a close second....
