hey the 3100 is the best engine gm ever made, next to the crossfire.

1. How does a 96 LS still have a warranty?

2. The 3100 isn't that bad of an engine, I think it gets ragged on a little too much...I mean, not that bad if yours doesn't have piston slap.  Don't get me wrong, its not exactly a massive powerplant, but it makes good power in the range where it counts for everyday driving, and does a pretty decent job of hauling around heavy W-bodies.  It was never put in W cars with the intent of hauling down the 1/4 mile in record time.  Also, despite their problems, there are also quite a few around with a ton of miles on the clock still making good power.

3. Yes, I'd trade it for an L67.

come on now fellas lets get with program. i said my car could beat a monte with a swapped l67, i was also was bragging about the 125 HP i was getting at the wheels, are we seeing a pattern of some type?

but yeah the crossfire was the worst engine ever made by gm i think it ranks with the v6's in new mustangs. thats my honest opinion. i mean seriously why would i go buy a 2004 mustang for like $25,000, when i can get a 96 monte ls that will smoke it for $2,500. that ford they are good for a few good laughs. then put the $12.5k into the monte and make it smoke the cobra, and have $10k left to bet on that race.

and i think the 3100 is a great engines, but not in a massive car like ours the 3.8l is a nice motor for our cars. also the 4.6 northstar, i want one in my monte.  i'm thinking of selling my grand am and getting a northstar or maybe a l67. the l67 has great potential, and thats what i want. finding performance parts for a 3100-3400 is not very easy.
