when i got my monte the guy i got it from said he just changed the coolant. i was looking at it about a week later and i was like this jackass done put the wrong coolant in. it was very dirty and green, so immediately i changed it. so about a month later it i look in my reservoir and it was dirty again so i changed it again.  so now it about  another month later and i painted my reservoir so i really cant see the coolant that well. but i stuck a paper towel on a stick and it was a little dirty but not as dirty as it was the previous times. but anyways what i wanted to know is the reason it was so dirty the first time, was it just cleaning out the dirty stuff?

i was going to post this along time ago but i forgot all about it till now.

I would flush the system out with just fresh water, then refill it with dexcool, which the 96's are supposed to have...not that it matters, really, you can use the green stuff if you want (some people dont like dexcool..why, i dont know, i use it and have never had a problem with it)

dexcool works better at sealing aluminum, that's why it's used.

Dexcool just discolors and gets sludgy alot faster than the reccomended 150k, Zerex is a good coolent to switch to also. Almost anything is fine.

if you do switch, you have to completely flush all the other coolant out, b/c dexcool and glycol do not mix well, they like to eat gaskets.
