I've got the 3.1L in my monte now, and lately the idle has been getting pretty bad. It was fine for awhile and I've been trying to hold out on spending a dime on it (partly b/c I drive it once a week or less, and partly b/c of the new engine getting prep'd to go in), but lately the idle has gotten bad. Its bad enough that sometimes it'll die at a light, or if you shifting say into R to get into a parking spot etc. Sometimes it idles smooth, but then it starts to rev up and down (pretty small jumps, but enough to kill it).
I posted this awhile ago and most of the responses said the ignition system was probably my culprit. So, while autotapping, I noticed I've got a pretty consistent cyl 5 miss, so I figured I'd check the ign system there. Put in a brand new plug in # 5, same, switched wires, nothing, swapped coil packs, nothing. So I'm basically guessing the ignition is not the prob.
I pulled my IAC, and its was filthy, cleaned up the surfaces on that (hoping maybe it was choking the engine), same. Then I was doing something one day and I pulled the vacuum line off my fuel pressure regulator, and w/ the car off it began to quirt fuel out the top (not a ton, but maybe a 3/4" geyser for a few seconds). Now I just got a recall for my 00 impala about the FPR saying the diapragm can leak fuel into the vacuum line, causing..... etc etc. So I'm guessing any fuel coming out of the vacuum port of the FPR means it has a leaky diaphragm inside? Would that cause my problems? My only engine related SES codes, are one for random misfire, and another for the evap purge solenoid. Anyone think the evap system could mess w/ the idle of the car? I'm also thinking the #5 injector might be plugged, I've only had them cleaned once about 40k ago (car has 85k now), so I thought that might be a prob, but they don't look like fun to change.
Any ideas on the possibility of replacing the FPR to solve my prob? Any help is appreciated as usual.
