TSB NOTES

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

SUBJECT: CLICKING AND/OR SQUEALING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR BRAKES (ADJUST PARK BRAKE CABLE)

MODELS: 1997 BUICK CENTURY 1997 CHEVROLET VENTURE 1997 OLDSMOBILE SILHOUETTE 1997 PONTIAC TRANS SPORT

CONDITION:
SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON A CLICKING AND/OR SQUEALING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR BRAKES.

CAUSE:
THIS NOISE MAY BE CAUSED BY AN UNDER ADJUSTED PARK BRAKE CABLE WHICH ALLOWS THE SPRING ON THE CABLE TO CLICK AND/OR RUB ON THE BRAKE LEVER.

CORRECTION:
TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, ADJUST THE PARK BRAKE CABLE USING THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE:

1. PUSH THE PARK BRAKE PEDAL DOWN ONE (1) CLICK.
2. ADJUST THE PARK BRAKE CABLE UNTIL THE WHEEL WITH THE LEAST TURNING RESISTANCE JUST STARTS TO DRAG. (THIS IS USUALLY THE LEFT WHEEL.)
3. RELEASE THE PARK BRAKE PEDAL.
