Debris Collects In Front Lower Portion Of Rear Wheelhouse #00-08-111-004

Subject: Debris Collects in Front Lower Portion of Rear Wheelhouse (Install New Wheelhouse Liner)


Models: 2000 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo


Condition:
Some customers may comment that debris collects in the front lower portion of the rear wheelhouse opening.


Correction:
Install a new wheelhouse liner following the procedure below:


Service Procedure:
Raise the vehicle.
Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
Remove the rear wheelhouse liner (discard the liner and the two nuts).
Remove the front lower screw in the lower rocker molding.
Remove the debris from the front and rear lower portion of the wheelhouse.
Install the wheelhouse liner in the opening. Make sure the front lower section of the wheelhouse is installed between the lower rocker molding and the body.
Install the screws and the push pin.

Before drilling, make sure the location of the hole is within the hem flange (see Figure). Feel the back of the hem flange so that you do not drill into the trunk.
Drill a 1/8 in. hole in the two tear shaped slots in the wheelhouse liner.
Coat sheet metal with anti-corrosion compound.
Install the two screws.
Install the tire and wheel assembly. Torque to 140 N·m (100 lb ft).
Lower the vehicle.
