The thing in July is usually a big multi gen Monte meet.

If just one meet a year is all you Monte enthusiest want. O.K. I just thought a meet closer North would help out our Northern members. BUT. Thats all you want. O.K. then.

I was just simply saying there was already a multi Monte meet coming up. Dont have to act like an ass.

Blackstone,
Firstly, I wasn't trying to imply that you were new in the hobby/profession; only new to the site. I think you might agree that once you are part of a community for awhile, you don't take offence to other's comments. Being that you are new here, I was trying to curb this as to ensure you might have a favorable first impression. I don't think it's too late, and I hope you'll continue to post and participate here.

That being said, your tone did come across to me (and possibly others) that we are being "ungrateful" for not jumping at the opportunity for additional meets. We often have people who come here and make false promises, so some of us have taken an "I'll believe it when I see it attitude." It is unforetunate yes, however I think you will find that we do appreciate people's efforts to organize events, and are willing to support them if they will take place for sure.

Tuner, I appreciate you not carrying the argument any further.

OK, enough.

From the looks of this topic it seems to me that there is too much being read into simple responses.

I think that what tunerlover3 originally said was misunderstood which has caused the issue.

However, that doesn't really give anyone the right to reply rudely to him.

1. Nobody ever said that all they wanted was 1 monte meet per year per region. Unfortunately, that is the way that it happens a lot of the time. Not every one can make multiple meets in one year, so sometimes there ends up only being one big one with a good turn out.

2. Is it entirely necessary to make derogatory remarks regarding the site membership as a whole and call us all children just because you don't like one response you received?

3. Misunderstandings, can and will happen on the internet as its hard to read true emotion over a computer screen.

Of course we have our share of people who can act immaturely from time to time. Every forum out there has people like that. The site has loads of information and the members are very helpful.

If in fact any members from this board are interested. Please feel free to read my post in official* 07/25/09 = Midsummer Chitown Gathering #2.

Sorry for the earlier misunderstandings. I as a VERY accomplished adult. Accomplished in every thing I touch or am aiming for. I am not accostomed to be told I can't. But then again who am I to you that you would be having knowledge of? Trust me. If we get enough interest. 25 or more Monte Carlo's I will indeed throw a gathering. Free to you! All you have to do is show. Heck. I might even add a free BBQ. At this time I am looking at a few posibilities. A lot large enough to hold 60 plus autos and safe room for a burn out comp. That is the reason for the BBQ. Usually to get a lot that large. We would have to drive to get food. I would not care to give the local enforcment any more reason to be bugging the younger generation of Monte owners. I know the latest thing is to hate Wal*Mart. This maybe the place we will meet. VERY large lot. Right by there auto section! They always have food vendors there. That way outdoor vendors would not be challanged by the local Municipals. I will be posting with regular updates on a new thread. Posting on other Monte clubs. I also will be passing out flyers to Monte owners I see in the area. So don't worry if you happen to be the only one from this sight who has interest. One more thing. This is NOT to compete with Cort. This is ment to coinside with his gathering.

I suppose we do not count among those accomplishments the ability to use spell check or the knowledge of how to create your own thread for a meet?

Your attitude is unnecessary regardless of how great you think you are or how much you feel we should all bow down to you. Treat people with respect and as equals and often you will get the same in kind. Quickly jump to conclusions and blind ageism and you will find yourself out in the cold or among a group of aging-wannabe hipsters complaining about how them youngins have it so easy these days.

No one ever said you cannot do what you propose; this is a construct you have created in your own mind. Perhaps due to some pre-conceived misconceptions about the community here.

All someone stated was a simple fact that another meet is in the same area around the same time.

Experience has taught many of us in the FWD community that depending on the scope of your meet 2 club meets near in location and time frame can cannibalize each other. Sadly the FWD Monte community is not as strong as it once was, and often all gen meets tend to discriminate against the FWD era cars. As a result are often avoided by the FWD Monte owners. That doesn't by any means say you can't hold a meet or even promote it here on my forum however deprecation of other members or derogatory references to the FWD Monte line on a 95+ Monte board will not net you many friends.

This is freaking amazing. Here I set a table for you. Free BBQ! Awards! A chance for a burn out comp. ALL FREE to you! Favoring the FWD Monte Carlo! And what do I get in return? WHA WHA WHA BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!

When I try to go to induce the sights spell check, my protection guards will not let me do it. The spell check holds some foriegn cookies my guards will not except. Just out of
curiousity. Have you gone through any other members post and even asked them about them using spell check? I did not think so.
Starting my own thread would as I feel self destructive. Why not continue on one and get a feel from the members.
One meet in the dead center of Summer while a follow up a good five weeks away, I would not consider to be a canabalization of either. I go to back to back events in the same area twice a year. One holds as many as 50 the other 70-80!
By the way. As for not favoring the FWD. I own two 5th and two 6th Generations. Along with two 4th Generations. So please don't tell me what I favor and what I dont!
Thank you for letting me use YOUR sight. I will most likely have this event. Wether or not you or any other members from this board show up. I hope all will show. If not thats OK too. Hopefully it is becouse you all went to Corts. Cort throws a great meet. I just wanted to give those who cant make Corts a chance to make another.

OH! and sorry about the Spelling. I know how hard it is to read when the spelling is off.
Please forgive me.

I know how difficult these things are to do. They realy are not!

Um, actually, in this area, they sure seem to be. I have been trying since 2003 to get a consistent interest in getting together in the Chicagoland area for SEVERAL groups/boards of which I am a member. Up until last year (2008), that interest was minimal at best. From 2003 to 2007, the most people that ever came together was ~5. Then, in 2008, I decided to try an experiment ... set a date for a gathering, reserve a spot at a Kane County forest preserve, and invite all of the boards of which I am a member. At one point, over 90 people expressed INTEREST in attending. The forest preserve area I had reserved did not accommodate that many people. Thus, I cancelled that reservation and spoke with the manager at the local Steak'n'Shake...and set it up for that location. 65 people actually attended. Depending on one's point of view, that isn't too shabby...especially for just a gathering. The MidSummer Chitown Gathering was not ... nor ever will be ... a "traditional" car show with prizes and awards. Nope ... this is simply a gathering. In that view, 65 people was darn good, imho. But, if you break down the numbers by message boards/groups ... 65 split between ~18 groups garners only about 3 people per board. Admittedly, not too impressive.

*shrugs*

Hopefully they can make it next year. After all. Its only a year. To bad its felt that there is only one person in this State that can pull off a car meet. But then again I end up going to about seven a year. Cort don't throw them all. Sorry Cort this is not a negative to or towards you. You do a wonderful job and I'm looking forward to our next meet.

I take it you will be there, then? Cool. And, thank you.

However ... not sure where you got the idea that the feeling was that only one person in IL can pull off a car meet. I know of several others who host car shows in this area and other parts of the state. The problem that most of us seem to find, though, is a lot of talk and not much action ... mostly because life gets in the way, literally and figuratively. Which is why I tried my experiment last year. I think it worked; thus, I've scheduled it already for 2009.

Quote

I just thought it would be cool to have two meets in the region. Limiting our selves to one meet a year is just silly. But what is, is what is. One a year.

In a way, I agree with you. Heh ... you might find this post interesting:

...and the one set for July certainly will take place. I'm updating that thread tonight, actually.

But, I agree with Cully ... we do take an "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude. A friend of mine in central IL is equally as frustrated as I am with the seeming lack of interest in regular events/gatherings in IL. We see our friends in NY and other areas getting together on a WEEKLY basis ... and being successful at that. Part of the problem is location and distance. Around here, it takes a while to get from the north end of Chicagoland to the south end of Chicagoland ... such that by the time you arrive at your destination, it's almost time to head back home.....
