So when I try to start the engine, it cranks, but doesn't start of course. The timing belt DOES turn... but on the front bank well... here listen to this...

When it cranks, the front bank (the two cams) like I said, everything spins, but rather than looking tight, it just gets loose, it jumps, almost like a hill, up and down. The front cam DOES spin also, but the engine was in a car that had been in an accident. All the accessory stuff was busted, and had to put stuff from my old engine on.

So, would this mean that the front cam was bent and busted under the pressure of a running engine? Or is my timing off? Help me out so I can fix this and have a Monte Carlo!!! :)

You saying the came gear is wobbling as its turning? Try and get a video of it. Did any of the timing covers get broken in the crash it was in? Any way are you geting fuel and spark?

None of the cams are wobbling, but it's almost as if the cam doesn't want to turn. The cam itself DOES turn, but when the rear cam on the front bank pushes the timing belt forward towards the front cam on the front bank, the belt basically pinches up until the rear bank pulls it around again. The front cam does turn, it's just like the timing isn't right.

I'll try to get a video posted up here, but with work, school, and all other things people do, times are getting tight right now. I'll do my best to get one up.

Is the belt tight? You mad have lost your tensioner and the belt is just slack.

Well I literally just replaced the tensioner. It could be that, it sounds like a good idea, but idk. I'm going to dig into it... hopefully tomorrow. I'm putting the car in my garage and parking my other cars outside, and will be doing some major work. Snow sucks, makes working on cars in the driveway suckkk. Like I said, I'll get a video posted as soon as possible, but it's just a pain with school/work combo right now, and all this snow. I'll look at that tensioner ASAP. Thanks man.

Ah forget it, I'm just doing a 3.8 sc swap. I'm going to have 3, 3.4 DOHC's on hand, and I'm just going to part them out. Selling all the good parts... what do you think I'll get? I'm hoping enough to put together money for a sc 3.8 HD trans combo... or maybe just a 2000 GTP donor...

Yeah. Don't be afraid to hack into it again and figure out the problem.

Besides, I'm not sure who all would be interested in a hugely dying market of 3.4L stuff. But you never know at 60 degree.

Well there's quite a bit of interest.. but I can't sell it. Ha. Nobody's up for paying $500 for a car that doesn't run (quite understood), so... help me out lol. I gotta know how to time this S.O.B.

Well another day short... nothing done today. Had school and had to take my girlfriend to the doctor. The doctor took so long that I couldn't get to the library before they closed, so I was unable to get the manual for the engine. Oh well, there's always another day to waste away.

Hoping to see some instructions here soon though, let me know what you guys got.

Pull the Ign system off, fan belt, power steering pump, plenum, top timing belt covers and fan belt tentioner. Then take the timing belt cover off. Then check the idlers see I the bearings have failed then check the tensioner actuator to do that the tensioner pulley has a square 3/8" stock coming out the front of the pulley. Put a wrench on it it should be riged the tensioner actuator does not give it can only get tighter. If all that looks okay. Pull the valve covers and turn the engine to top dead center. To do that look at the crank pulley uper right the timing belt housing it has a arrow and on the Dapener (looks like harmonic dampener) it has a notch. it will line up with the arrow at TDC.

Ok done tierd of writing... take a look at the timing belt guid on 60v6

IT RUNS!!! Got everything put back together, and IT RUNS! Ah, what a relief. It ran like sh*t, it wasn't firing on all cylinders, so we have to go back through and compression test the 6, but, ah, it felt good to hear that car run.. lots of stress and tears poured into that car, to hear gas meet spark, and see exhaust smoke in this MN cold.. ah, it was great. Once again I have to thank everybody for the help. My next project, will be a SC 3.8 in my '05 Pontiac Montana sv6, that'll be a while, waiting for the 3.5 to blow out first :) haha
