The old service hosting the member map is shutting down so I exported the data and moved everything to google maps. You can check it out both right here in this post and by clicking the link below.

The map is open for anyone to add their own markers. Go ahead and make your mark!

Click the link under the map to goto the google map page and click edit, you can search for a town or address and then add a marker.

my bad, you need to have a google account in order to edit the map, it is open for all to edit but you need to be logged into a free google account to do so.

no idea really. MonteCarloChick started the map on Frapr years ago. They posted a KML export in the last week so I took it as is and uploaded it as-is. I didn't really play with the data much other than post it.

If someone is enterprising they are welcome to clean things up a bit.

I tried once, it wasn't pretty. I fought with myself, banned my own ISP and I still managed to get on. I tried again but I almost imploded so I figured it was best to ban things that were not me.

First you need to be logged into a google account.

When you are the map will have a button next to it in full view (get to full view by clicking the link under the mini-map above).

Once you click edit you will get controls that allow you to add a marker to the map. You can also add a comment or change your marker icon.

^ Yeah I hate that, glad I signed up before google required that. I know they won't do anything with it but I don't need to have google knowing my cell number.

I just went through the sign-up process to see what you are talking about as I have had my account since gmail first came around.

The system does not require a cell phone number, after you do the email verification it asks you to add one but it is not required to do so in order to use the system, just click the sign in link in the upper right and ignore the request for a phone number.

Not sure what to tell you, I now have 2 new google accounts, neither has a phone number tied to them (though it did give me the option when I signed up) and I can still sign in and access the edit features of the map with no issue. Neither account uses an address at Gmail.com either they are from my own domains.

Unfortunately there is not much else I can do to help you.

Well, I was trying to make accounts for everyone at my work (for a blog), and it only let me create so many before it didn't let me ignore the phone number thing. But this was after I had made like 15. So then I just started doing them from different IP's.

interesting, like some form of spam protection.

if you are at a school or a company trying to do this I could see that happening as most of the time you are share one IP with everyone.

If you are using your home connection then either someone managed to get on your network or the person who had the IP before you did you a favor.
