I take it you a 95 MC Z34, with the 3.4 DOHC? Personally, I have never done that, if that was the case, I am just trying to clarify what car you have, so others can help.

The lifters are a pain. if you take off the cam cariers then the lifters all drop...

* stick a piece of vac hose between the lifters and the cam carier before you take the carier off and it will hold the lifters.
* repalce your head bolts IIRC they are Yeald to TQ and be sure to TQ them to the right specs and in the correct order.. if you get a manual from the parts store it should tell you the specs and the tq order.
* clean all surfaces well before reinstall and use good quality gaskets
* check the heads for any wear or damage (leaky valve seals ect) and repair before reinstall.
* if your going to let it sit for a few days might want to put just a tiny bit of oil on each cyl to help prevent scaring of the cyl walls on startup.
* DEFINALTY replace the dist. O-Ring while apart with the new OE brown ring (cant remember what the new ring is made of but its brown) even if you have done it not to long ago..

might as well do plugs on other items while its all apart if needed.

As red monte said. Change your valve seals. Takes a few hours with a valve spring compresor but its well worth it.
