My buddy just got my Monte Carlo off of me, and latley it has been balls ass cold here. He says the car is being a pain in the ass to start up, it has a new battery, 130,000 miles, new fuel filter, plugs, wires, battery cables. If he gives it a little bit of gas while he starts it, he said it starts up, if he just turns the key, he said it sputters then starts...I know the MAF was dropped in the garage before installing, so I am swapping that out, and he has dual flowmasters installed right now.. I am just trying to find a way to get this think to where it wont be a problem for him.. Any help?

That could be it, he did say sometimes when he starts it, that its revving high.. would this be the culprit??

Also, I spoke with him today, and the flowmasters were hacked off (stolen) would not having a full exhaust cause it too?

No the exhaust can be run open down pipe and run fine. The only thing is if you did run it open d/p you would have to have the rear 02 programmed out of the PCM. That sucks that the muffs were stolen though, some people.

Let us know what happens when you replace the MAF and what condition the IAC valve is in.

Where exactly is the IAC, is it close to the throttle body? Also how will I be able to tell if it needs to be replaced?

the IAC is on the throttle body.... I would 1st off use some MAF cleaner and clean the MAF and also remove the IAC and clean it. with 130K its prob pretty dirty. then put it back to gether and see if it runs any better. I would also suspect the IAC.

here sounds like something simmilar to this guys issue... ended up being IAC.

Well finally got around to pulling the valve/ sensor out today, took me a couple of minutes, I noticed the think was BLACK o ring was broke in half as well, took a maglite and looked inside, the TB is DIRTY, Is this normal, or is it a bad sign? I am most likly going to replace the TB back to the airbox for him, or clean the TB up really well. But overall the new one really made a difference.

Just remove the sensors and clean that TB the best you can with some cleaner, hit the MAF with MAF Cleaner and let everything air dry.

Mine does the same thing sometimes..... I have/had 4 problems though that I think contribute to that. Dirty MAF (check), PCV leak on the rubber 90* elbow(check), nasty lookin TB and sticking or dirty IAC in which both need to be done yet. Probabaly should do those today
