Well, I'm about to get some new tires, and while I have my rims off, I want to clean the inside of my rims. I don't know what the rims are made of but I don't want to use anything real harsh on them like brake cleaner. I have used some dawn dish soap before with mediocre results, but was just curious on what you guys use. I will doing this this weekend so I don't really feel like ordering anything online. Thanks.

Use the powerball with some Mother's chrome polish, I've always had good results with any Mother's product. I guess I don't know if the inside is chromed or not but if's it's not just use the aluminum polish on that part. Just my .02 but there's plenty of other options for products. I still would use the powerball though, might wanna grab a couple if it's really bad. That way you have a nice clean one for the final cleaning

Yeah, I do have a powerball laying around somewhere with some polish. I forgot that I even had that lol. I might try that.

powerball mini FTW. that is honestly your best bet. Are the wheels corroded (sp?) or are they just caked with dirt? if they are corroded then you might be SOL but if not then the powerball is the answer.

Wheels are not corroded, just have a layer of brake dust/dirt/grime on the inside of the rim. I will be pulling them off, so I think I will have a go at them with my powerball.

I use Grease lightning on the back and Mothers on the front. Pick up a scuff pad and go to town on the back, but try to avoid getting the degreaser on the front as it may be harsh to the coatings. I always do this with my wheels with SUPER results, and before I store my wheels, I always clean them front and back so while they're put away I know they are clean, protected, and ready to have tires mounted and ready to go. The backs will SHINE if you use a good scuff pad.

I actually just took them off on Saturday. Took a scouring pad with some Dawn soap and had decent results. The wheels are clean on the inside but nothing too spectacular. More than anything, I just needed a nice clean surface for them to put my wheel weights on when I get my tires this week.

I thought I posted my cleaned up rims after I did them but I'm n ot finding the post.

Anyways pics pretty much explain it themselves. After my brake caliper seized, brake dust baked for almost a year.

After I used Eagle one Mag Cleaner. It's the acidic one and you should use gloves with it and goggles. I didn't but that's just me. Thing with this stuff is you can't leave it on for very long so have a fresh bucket of cold clean water beside you with a rag or sponge.

Here's the after result. I ended up doing this wheel again when I did the rest of them and the stuff that wouldn't come off eventually did with a an old toothbrush.
