- As the title says I'm wondering if I can disable the A.I.R system and if I can what it's gonna affect, also if I can how do I go about doing that?
- If there is a leak in one of those lines somewhere will it cause the car to idle up and down and die in park? Or when putting in park after a drive?
- The rubber 90* elbow coming off the TB (that attaches to the tube goin to the valve cover) was ripped and leaking of course... When I disconnected it from the valve cover and plugged the end of the tube the car seemed to idle a little smoother but it could just be me. Can I plug the outlet on the TB and elimnate that tube and just find a way to filter the valve cover? Is that really gonna do anything or no?
- Also if anyone else noticed a had a leaking trans gasket and had burned fluid and whatnot..... Thinkin it might be the transmission as the sole problem for chugging at highway speeds under light load or cruising around town. Could this and the idling problem both be something with the transmission or do you guys think they're probably unrelated? Cuz I don't think the idling problem would have anything to do with the tranny but who knows, I don't know everything obviously

Any thoughts and ideas are all welcome.... Also just to add for anyone who cares, put in a 180* tstat today and like it. My heat feels like it's warmer so maybe it was time for a new tstat anyway

Umm I think you may have the AIR system confused with a PCV.

First off, what motor is this on? Usually if a hose is coming off the TB its for PCV. And if you have a leak in the PCV hose, depending on where the leak is, then yes this could cause your surging issues.

I'm talkin about 2 different things there, I couldn't think of the name of the PCV hose. Maybe putting on that new elbow will fix the surging then, we shall see. I was also asking about disabling the AIR system. That mess of hoses in front of the right front tire, I was wondering about that. I've read a little about it before but don't exactly remember what it does, if I do recall though it doesn't do a whole hell of a lot. I don't know if works like it should or not but I just kind of wanted to get the whole rundown of what it does and where all the hoses go and also what happens if it's disabled

Edit- It's on a 96 3.4 by the way

All the AIR system does is inject fresh air into the exhaust to reduce emissions. It doesn't effect performance at all so not sure why you would want to disable it. Seems like more trouble than its worth.

That's all I'm wondering... I knew it didn't do much but with all the hoses I wasn't sure if there was an easy way to go about it. K so another question, could the vaccum modulator or whatever it's called have anything to do with the o/d actin funny and maybe then resulting in the burned tranny fluid and whatnot. i don't think so but I figured I'd ask anyway

Do you mean the vacuum modulator on the transmission or are you still talking about the AIR system? If you're talking about the trans then I guess if the diaphram was torn it could cause shift line pressure to be off.

Yeah on the trans, I'm just tryin to gather all possible options as far as that problem goes besides the transmission being f-ed. I'm sure if all that black crap on the bottom of the pan was clutch material then I'm sure that clutch pack or whatever is in there probably needs to be replaced regardless. If I could get away with just replacing the vacuum modulator then that's fine cuz I'm in no position to tear into the transmission right now, as the Monte is my only transportation. How can I tell if that diaphram is torn, just take it off the trans and look inside or what?

I don't think you can see inside of it and I'm not sure of a way to test it, sorry.

Disappointing...... and you work on Lambo's, Bentley's, and Vette's??? Ha, just kidding.... I'll take a look on the net and ask around to see if there is a way to test it or check if it's bad, otherwise I'll just see how cheap I can pick on up for. Just like everything else I've replaced that didn't fix anything but couldn't hurt to replace anyway, it's not like it's gonna make the car run or drive worse
