Over the weekend, me and my friend went and checked out one of his friends Monte's. It seemed like a pretty typical SS, but I was thrown off by the Tasmanian devil badging. Anyways, here it is.

Yeah, the guy keeps it sitting outside in the snow :(

It's missing quite a few decals that are on most pace cars...

checkered flags, windshield, official pace car written on the rockers and spoiler.

But it's gorgeous :)

I've seen a couple 6th gens in this area that have Taz in that exact same spot but a little bigger. One is black and 2 are red, and none are Pace cars. First thing I noticed it was missing is the checkered flags plastered along the side, but I think they look better without them

Most likely a dealer option so they could rack up some more cash.

Here's another good test.

Each year had it's own pace car color. Is his car a 2002? Because that was the year for yellow pace cars.

2000: Red
2001: Black
2002: Yellow
2003: Blue

ah darn. I knew I should have taken a picture of the VIN. But I'm pretty sure it was a 2002 or 2005. And I agree it was a sweet Monte :) But I think HeavyChevy is probably right...the taz badges are clearly stickers, so they probably stuck them on there to make a few extra bucks. I'd still buy it though

It's not a 2005, because it would be supercharged, wouldn't have side moldings, or a trunk key hole.

Yes, all of the 2005's SS's were supercharged. I didn't know that about the trunk key hole though.

Yep, it's subtle, but true.

I know that because I was looking for a black 2005 trunk-lid so that I could have an easily shaved trunk and a stand-up spoiler, before I found my 2006 spoiler ;)

How many of these do you guys think they made? The owner was pretty curious...

In 2000, they made 2222 pace cars.
2001, 1300 pace cars
2002, 1150 pace cars
2003, 1401 pace cars.

So if it is in fact a 2002 Monte Pace Car, it's the most rare. Sometimes calling GM or contacting them somehow can get you the number, but I don't think they will ever do reprints of the COA

I know people who have called and they won't tell you the number and they won't do reprints is what they were all told.

I knew about not doing the reprints, but some people over on the MCF used to call up and GM would at least tell them the number of their car

Well I wonder if they just quit doing it here recently. I saw a Tony Stewart and Dale Jr. monte at two different dealerships and asked if they had a the number and they said that GM wouldn't tell them. This was last summer I believe but this is also coming from a dealership. I haven't tried because I have my certificate so I don't know personally.
