you know the panels under the side windows in back of the car, you know the ones with the cheap stock material people normally replace with vinyl. well has anyone redone those pieces and mounted speakers in them? if so how deep is the space between that panel and the body and if you have done it how does it sound? i ask because im thinking of adding some component mids to my system and mounting them there and i dont want to go through all the work if they are going to sound like crap or create unwanted noise.

you answered your own question. But if you wanted to i bet you could fit a shallow speaker in there but it would be a tight squeeze and that piece is a terrible thing to mount a speaker to i'm guessing. You would have to angle them funky to even get any good sound out of them and not to mention if anyone sits in the back seat they would become useless and make the music sound even worse for the people back there. Its not worth the time and effort. I know because i asked about this a few years back and this is what i was told :D

so yea... don't do it, maybe just upgrade to some 6.5" for the front speakers

Yeah you could probably do it, but it wouldn't be worth while. You don't want mids mounted right behind you to your side, it'll sound terrible. Not to mention there's probably not anything sturdy to mount the speaker to there. Upgrade to 6.5" components in the factory door locations.

thnx for the info guys, i think ill take your advice and swap out my door speakers, now if i do that will the full range speakers i take out of my doors sound good in that spot? was thinking of reinforcing the speaker in the panel with a wooden ring to make somewhat of an enclosure for it.

I wouldn't put anything there. There's no real point. If you really want better rear speakers, just upgrade the factory rears.

What are you looking to get out of this system, and how far are you wanting to take it? Headunit, amps, subs...?

well i have completely swapped out every component of the system, soundstream speakers in the front and rear, new amp to power them, new 1000watt mono block to power the new t5-12s in a bassworx box. im really just seeing where i can add more to my system and improve it. because im designing my car with a spiders and web theme around the black and red interior im always looking to add more of anything. im really jsut trying to see different ways to make it stand out so adding more speakers is one way for me to do that. and that portion of my car is too plain for me so i figure another speaker in each side in that region would make it look more unique

The next step to improve your stereo is to remove the rear speakers and leave the holes empty. That'll give you better sound, assuming you have nice front component speakers that can handle a decent amount of midbass.

Putting speakers in the rear side panels might add to the uniqueness but it'll really hurt the sound quality of your system.
