Behind the old monte..

Just thought I would mention 4 cyl mode..
Posted Image
Only had the car for 5 hours, but so far im loving 4 cylinder mode..Or Active Fuel Management as GM calls it...4 cylinders shut down, and the V8 runs in V4 mode, running on cylinder 1,2,3,4...So far I noticed today that under light accelaration, or in while just cruising along, 4 cyl mode will turn on at about 35 to 40mph, and normally stay on unless there is medium to heavy acceleration, or going up a steep hill...While cruising, mileage is 26 at the lowest, and 29 at the highest..Definitly something I like, as where I live every road has a speed limit of 35 to 40...So far I have noticed no noticeable lag when gunning it while in 4 cylinder mode..

Other impressions...
Handling - I don't know if it's the larger wheels/rims or what, but this thing hugs the ground wayyy better than my 01 did...On tighter turns while accelerating, I had no problem navigating them, whereas if I was in my 01 i would have had to had a somewhat hard grip on the steering wheel and been continuosly turning it..

Steering - Not sure if this is just cause it's newer or what, but the steering is also better..Takes less effort to turn(not that that is a problem for me, just stating it as a plus Posted Image ) and also seems a little bit more responsive.

Seats - Much higher quality leather..Seats are also much more comfortable, giving more lumbar support(big thing for me)...Gave a few of my closer friends a ride and this was the first thing they all said when they sat down.

Don't plan on doing much to the engine really, Because of the inherently weak transmissions and all the horror stories i've heard about them..Looking into getting a transmission cooler, but Not sure, I'll have to research it a little more...Or the aluminum pan that ZZP sells.

Will probably get black rally stripes, tints, the projector headlights, and possibly red L.E.D. tails..but im not sure on them, I actually really like the 06-07 tails.

Man, I just fall in love every time I see an 06 or 07 Monte SS. They look awesome imo and they have a V8, major plus. Also, how can you go wrong with driving the fastest production w-body ever? Low 14 second car, high 13s are easily had. I'd totally be moddifying that thing, lol.

And that thing can barely be called a wbody anymore... but let's focus on what's important here:

Gorgeous car. The SS definitely got a beefier suspension.

The only thing I disagree with you is the seats. I think my 2000 interior is way more comfortable.

Also remember, if you want to do an aftermarket exhaust the DOD will kind of make it sound horrid.

I disagree. The DOD is only engaged when you're at constant speed. Under any load, which is when you are going to hear the car, it's going to be in 8cyl mode. I know several different setups that have sounded good. The best I've heard was a superturbo knock off brand.

You can tell when it's in 4 cylinder mode, it really doesn't sound that bad..It just less...sh*t I don't know what theyre called, explosions, pulses(bear with me i have no idea what it would be called lol), are just less frequent.
