3Rd Brake Light Wiring Issue?

ok, so, the other day, i went to the junkyard and picked up a 3rd brake light off of a 2001 lumi. I got it so i can convert the 3rd brake light to led to match my tails, so my question is, when i cut the bulbs off (so i can make sure about the wiring), this is where i hit my issue. from the drivers side light, there are 3 wires... two yellow and one black, and the pass has one yellow and one black. These wires all come from the drivers side brake light, because that's the yellow wire side. My question is, does anyone know why the drivers side has a 3rd wire? i thought it was a taillight, but then realized it doesn't light up with them, so does anyone know what it is?

I can't say for sure, but it might just be the + wire going to the second bulb. In my theoretical scenario the second bulb is for some reason getting its - wire from elsewhere. It could happen. The + jumper may not appear to go directly to the second bulb. It may get lost in the harness first, then go the long way around. You need a 12 volt test light and a friend who has feet to see what this wire does.
