Hey guys, after looking forever I finally found a transmission in a junkyard that I can rebuild for my car. Last one I found they said would cost $800 just to get it, F*** that, I went to a new Junkyard around me $85 for transmission. I found a 95 Monte z34 with 150xxx on it. so this is my chance. I'm going tomorrow to attempt to take out the transmission with a friend. Just wondering some quick ways to get it out. I care not for the car cause its junk so I have no problem tearing it apart to get to the transmission. What are some of the easiest ways to get it out, I don't have a huge arsenal of tools so ill have to drop it from under the car (no cherrypicker) im i just looking for 2 engine mounts and subframe bolts? and thats it or is there more to get it out.

Don't forget the CV mounts and all
Read over the haynes manual on it before you go out, do you have one for the 5th gen montes?

Lol there's definitely more than you think to dropping a transmission. First off you need to have something to support the engine or else it will fall on you when you unbolt the cradle. You need to unbolt the control arms from the knuckle, get all the wiring off the cradle, unbolt the engine and tranny mounts from it, unbolt the rack and let it hang, then the crade is ready to come out. Obviously you need to remove all the bellhousing bolts and torque converter bolts (you better hope the engine isn't locked up or you're in for a treat, might wanna check that before starting). There's also a diff bracket on the passenger side that needs to come out, not you can access the diff bolt with a very long extension and probably a swivel socket. From there it just drops out, good luck! I know I wouldn't wanna do it on the ground.

Well it went ok today, ran into a few problems like one of the subframe bolts not wanting to move at all. eventually just hoped ontop of the engine until it fell lol. So i have to go back tomorrow morning hope to god it doesn't rain, but we got 99% of the job done 1 more bolt on the engine to tranny and 1 more tranny mount in the back and its out completely. junkyard ended up closing though so tomorrow morning for sure.
well finally got it out and home its in great condition for 150k on it but ill end up rebuilding before putting it in the car.

Check out my post on 60degreev6.com if you want some info on what to update/replace during the rebuild to make it stronger. in 1996 the 4T60 got revised parts and also aftermarket has hardend parts to replace the weak stock parts...
I just had my 4T60 rebuilt and love it
