Believe or not it is true!!well here's a tip that has proven well on my 95 Lq1, 144K miles, and my 98 lumina ls
A stat change is never simple, and the low-temp stat proved flimsy (sh*tty).Darn little hypertech stat.
The stat comes with a small "weep hole" to allow coolant to run past the stat.
1.Slightly,(1/16" larger) increase the size of that hole with a drill bit. THIS IS for a Standard thermostat not a heavy duty.
2. On the opposite side of the weep hole, still on the rim of the thermostat in the same orientation as that original hole, drill another weep hole 3/32" in size and clean your debris smooth with a file.
This will reduce your running temp to about 15-30 degrees. Depending on climate-summer/winter
Another benefit is this reduces the air that gets trapped and causes the coolant light to flash after a flush. although you still need to bleed the air on that coolant nipple, it is faster.

Why not just buy a 180* t-stat? They're like $10-12 around where I live and take like 10 minutes to do, including vehicle warm up time and bleeding. A little action I missed on here in the past couple weeks
