i have a 95 m/c 3.1 . about a month ago i discovered that i had a lower intake manifold gasket leak, all the oil was foamy and was being sucked into the intake through one of the crank case hoses that connect to the main intake. oil was everywhere in the manifold. before the gasket failed, i would hear a bit of a clicking sound when the engine was cold. i changed the oil after i did the i/m gaskets and drove it for a week. then noticed an even louder clicking noise ( lifter?). but it seems to be coming from the left side of the engine and the right side! so i poured half a bottle of sea foam in the oil, and drove it a few days. like 70 or 80 miles. no luck.. still noisy. so i changed the oil. 20w50. i have 168000 miles so i'm told that should be good till winter. today i got a bottle of cd2 engine stuff... it claims to quiet noisy lifters.... and it worked on the left side lifter.... but now it sounds like the right side lifter took a crap and the cylinder seems to be misfiring of just missing. at high rpm it seems to run ok, but on hills or from a stop, it runs really rough. idles really rough and theres still tapping from right side. all vac lines seem ok, engine light came on right before it started running rough. i had only gone like 6 miles since i added the cd2. could it have freed up or cleaned out a lifter thus causing the lifter to fail? or could it be something dumb like a vac leak. i'm stumped... any ideas.

i don't remember the actual code, but it's referring to the #3 EGR solenoid. funny thing happened last couple days.... i took off the valve cover and found a broken rocker arm! replaced it and hardly any ticking.!! just a wee bit when cold! hooray!... but now the dang check engine light comes on when i'm goin downhill. same code as always... #3 solenoid.... and it's a new egr valve. i cleaned the old one, it had rust up in the solenoid, so i cleaned it, installed it, and no check engine light for 3 days and wham! it comes on. so the new one is on again... same thing... and yeah, i reset the codes.

Same with my car, when its under 40ish degrees out i have a horrible lifter tick and the engine idles at about 1600 rpms until it reaches temp. But when its above 40ish i have no lifter tick, and it idles at 800 rpms...

Your egr problem could be beacause of the sea foam. I was reading on 60degreev6 that a guy seafoamed his 3100 and it clogged his egr valve. Honestly, i think your egr problem and lifter problems are completely unrelated. You didnt list the milage on your car, but from being a 95, that car is 15 years old and engine problems (such as lifters) are bound to happen. Replace them if your in dought, if it doesnt fix your problem at least you have new lifters.

Seafoam doesn't block things, its actually great at cleaning things like EGR passages and the tops of pistions.

i think since my lower intake manifold gasket went bad and the oil got ruined and foamy, that the rocker arms wernt gettin lubricated enough, now one by one they're failing. where the ball and rocker arm meet looks worn, but not THAT bad, but i'm no expert. the egr problem was before the seafoam was added. and the seafoam doesn't make contact with any of the egr systems. it's in the oil and gas, unless burnt seafoam would clog things up.?
