Have your battery tested.

thats what i was thinking thanks for the help. one other thing is it worth spending the extra change to get an optima or would a nicer commercial work just as good??

optimas are a waste unless you want it for weight savings as a race battery or have a very large stereo

x2. If all you need it to do is start your car, you don't need an Optima.

+1 on testing your battery. It's probably about to go out on you. Just get a regular replacement battery, those Optimas or whatever they are cost wayyy to much for a stock vehicle.

alright yeah i believe its the same battery from the factory i bought it used and the guy said it was the original battery so best quess would be maybe my battery but i wanted to make sure im not shotgunning things into my car and end up with a thousand dollar bill. yeah i dont have much for a system just 2 12's and a 300 watt amp sounds just fine to me not to much and not to little so i dont think i'd need an optima for something that small.

Make sure you test your battery to know, just in case. I'm surprised your factory battery lasted so long. Mine went out 4 years ago, lol.

battery was tested it looked okay because when car was off battery tested at around 12.56V and then when car was on it test 13.6somethingV but one thing that confused me was when i put the battery on a load it dropped to 9.58V so does this mean i have possibly lost a cell and or my cold cranking amps are gone??? 13 year old battery so im thinking its time to get a new one since the alternator is fine

Volts don't mean sh*t for starting. What were the CCAs?

?

Volts don't equal CCAs. CCA is cold cranking amps, its how many amps are available on a cold battery to start the car and has nothing to do with putting the car under a load. You need to test this with an actual battery tester not a volt meter.

yeah i know what CCA means have for a while but what i was trying to say which i didnt write by accident is if 9.58V can be converted into CCA's by some formula thats what i was trying to get at. the tester i used digital multi meter. so thats what i was trying to get and plus i really doubt a good battery dips down below 10 with a load on it. i got buddies with loud subs and car off and everything turned up their caps only read down to about 10.2-10.4 then of course shoot back up once it stops. so i think and hope its my battery

Go to Autozone/Advance Auto and have them test your charging system. They can do more than just use a DMM on it and it's free.

I don't think you do know what CCA means. You can't convert amps to volts, they measure two different things. That's like converting feet to gallons.

No, but using Ohm's law you can calculate one from the other if you know resistance.

if you know the battery is bad and its 13 years old... why not just buy a new one? i think its time.

and yes dbl_d is right, you can do the conversion.

you can convert your volts to amps by doing the calculation...

It's not a conversion, it's a calculation. A conversion is something miles to kilometers, different units of the same measurement. Amps and volts are not the same measurement.
