why not a 3.fo? hitting 3500 RPM is like hitting the ignition switch on a rocket!

I wasn't referring to you having a 3100, I was just correcting the other ones misspelling of 3.4.

the 5.3 is possible but not a direct drop in. no one has done it yet in a 5th gen monte.

the 3.5 is a pretty straight forward swap however I don't think you can use one from an 07 car. IIRC you need one from 03-05. Check http://60degreev6.com to be sure.

Not sure but would you really need aftermarket with that engine? ;)

It's an LSx engine so there's a fair bit available.

Or the cartuning turbo...

But this is not the stage you'd be worrying about aftermarket.

What is your budget for the swap? IMO a 3400 or 3500 vs an LS4 is going to be a big difference in price- there aren't nearly as many LS4's out there since they only came in a few cars, and even then only in the highest trim level.

There is decent aftermarket for the LS4- some regular LSx stuff works- the intake manifolds, and obviously their headers don't work- but you can still do heads/cam from the LS egines- and you can do the custom work to add an aftermarket intake or LS6/LS2, etc.

They do make one expensive set of headers for them ($1000)- but obviously you'll have to assume you'll need to hack the heck out of the firewall to make them fit. The turbo kit is an option too- but at ~$5000 (plus add at least $4000 for a built trans to hold it)- you're getting into well over a $10,000 powertrain swap into a $1000 car- so that's something to consider too.

Which is why none of this is ever going to happen. This is just the weekly "I'm gonna swap an ls4 in my monte" post.
