Driving home today I noticed a loud rattling/grinding noise from the left side of the engine. Sound wasn't very noticeable while driving but when idle, it was fairly loud. I got home, left the car on, popped the hood and took a look. The sound was coming from the serpentine belt area. My dad and I thought that the tensioner/idler pulley was loose causing it to shake more than it was suppose to causing the rattleing/grinding noise. We tried tightening it up but the sound was still there. We poked around a little more and found out the bear in the pulley might have gone cause the rattling/grinding noise.

So, will I need just the tensioner/idler pulley assembly?

The serpentine belt might also need changed too while I'm at it cause it look worn. Mainly just need help on the pulley part.

just get a new tensioner assembly. they run pretty cheap, especially if they have a core charge.

Ok. I'll have to check autozone tomorrow. Don't want to let it go much longer. Any ideas how long a repair this would take?

if you have the single socket wrench it takes, about 10-15 minutes. Unbolt one, put the other right back on. Its held on by a single bolt.

Got it today as well as a belt. If weather is good I'll have to work on it tomorrow.
