I recently bought a 2001 Monte carlo ls, v6, 3.4l. it was haveing problems starting and i determined it was something electrical. I replaced the ignition switch thinking it was the problem. also sometimes when it does start the gauges are messed up and wont read and i wont get any warning lights that i normally get. also on my car stereo it says locked and wont let me use it. Any help or advice on what to do or how to fix it would be awesome.

Perhaps your BCM is starting to go?

I think the BCM needs to be checked with a Tech-II tool, which unfortunately the dealership has. Perhaps someone will chime in with better information.

There's no way to "check" a bcm. It is possibly that a faulty bcm is causing your problems but right now you're just making a very expensive guess. Are you still having problems starting it? Your post is pretty vague with a description of what the problem is.

I just dropped it off at a chevy dealership to have them diagnose it :\ hopefully its not the BCM and the security system just has the car locked up.

Anything is better than stock lol

Glad you got it fixed. Only $400?? That's on the cheap side for what I've heard from some BCM stories
