I'm pretty sure my 95 mc has obd 1.... but when i bought a scan tool for it, it didn't work. advance autoparts and autozone tried to assure me its the right tool, but it's not.
The a and b pins are not next to each other, they're one on top of the other. so my question is... what is this called?

Its obd1.5 If the scanner can read it it will say so on the box. I don't think they sell a scanner that will read it

Why would you buy a scanner? I'm pretty sure you can jumper 2 of the terminals and read the flash codes.

Idk if the jumper trick will work on a 95 as for a scanner is big bucks your just sol. Need to go to a shop to read the codes.

Yeah, it probably wont work. In obd 1 there is tons of different plugs, scanners etc. Obd2 has a universal plug and scanner. 95 and older cars have obd1, where 96 and new have obd2.

welcome to the wonderful world of ODB 1.5, the bitch of the PCM versions and a sorry ass piece of hardware that should have never been in production cars.

but I digress.

Your standard store or reader will not read ODB1.5 you will need to buy or borrow a scanner that can. Most that read ODB 1.5 cost about $200.

Supposedly you can jumper the pins on the 1.5 DLC connector but I suck and have never gotten it to work.

IMHO if you going to do any serious modding just upgrade the whole thing to a 97 or 98 PCM with full ODBII.

1995 and older are OBDI... 1996+ are OBDII.

1994-5 used a Modified version of OBDI which has been deemed OBD1.5, Which means you need a OBDI Scanner, If the connector fits it should read. (OBD1 scanners are very rare these days)

FYI the "OBD1.5" can not flash the CEL code like the older OBD1 cars.
