Hi there,
Got a 95 lumina 3.1... was running perfect. I changed the trans oil and fitler with mobil 1 dex 6... and afterwads i have been having some issues. After the car warms up real good, it seems to hesitate when you accelerate from stop, or at low speed... Usually it occurs after driving at low speeds, and after being driven on the express way. Sometimes, it drives just fine! the check engine light comes on sometimes, but the code won't save in the car...the light comes and goes as you drive the car.
Any ideas? I put a GM filter in.
Thanks.

Issues After Changing Trans Fluid

Did you put enough fluid in it? I think it takes ~7 quarts. I'm sure you used transmission fluid, not gear oil, right?

Did you make sure you seated the filter and seal all the way into the transmission? If not, you will suck up air and that will cause slipping and eventually (read: quickly) burn up your clutches. This is assuming of course that you checked the fluid level properly (car running, warm, after being run through the gears).
Also, I wouldn't use dex 6, especially a synthetic on a transmission that old. The newer dex 6 fluid is a little "slippier" than dex 3 and wasn't really designed for the older transmissions even though gm says its ok.

If anything i would have to say dexron III is "slippier" then dexron VI because of that lack of friction material that VI now has. Just my .02.
From GM:
Improvement over dexron III
Clutch friction stability -- improved 100 %
Clutch Durability due to fluid -- Improved 120%
Oil Film Thickness -- Increased 20%
Fluid Oxidation -- Improved 100%
Foam Aeration -- Improved 150%
Shear Stability -- Improved 200%
But i would still take that with a grain of salt.

I started having problems when I switched to dex 6, i would've sticked with dex 3.
