Well, I've come to a point where I decided I need a new car. As of yesterday, right when I got to work, my brakes went out completely. I was going only bout 5 slow enough to pull in and put my emergency brake on. I had to have it towed to the closest garage and they said the brake line going to the master cylinder was rotted, actually it was a piece going right up to it. So they replace a section of that line. Come to find out, this afternoon, still no brakes. Apparently the line to the driver sides rear brake drum, well a piece doing into the line was rotted completely off. So that needs replaced as well as the cylinder in the drum. I hope to god that is all that needs replaced because I can't afford to have my car out for another day and spending more money that I need to.

The car is 13 years old, and with that past 2 1/2 years I've owned it, it's been to the shop to many times. Fuel lines, rear struts, fuel filter, brakes twice , body work and lots more, I can't remember. I need something reliable. I really want a Monte Carlo Z34 but I can't see having an older car that needs new sh*t every time. It's not even worth it. I've done enough to the car appearance wise and it's almost not even worth it no more.

So, with that, my Lumina might be going. I need something reliable, something newer. I have bout 8 grand to spend on a car alone. I'm thinking truck.

Suggests? 8 grand to spend.

I've thought about that but I dunno, it's an option. I always said I wouldn't by one cause I always like the 5ths over the 6ths cause of looks.

Learn how to do the work yourself. Brakes, brake lines, struts and all that are fairly easy things that most DIYers can do at home.

Also, spending hundreds of dollars on brake lines, THEN buying a new car is a horrible decision financially. I would either not fix it and get a new car, or if all the brake lines are going to be new then keep driving it.

I have to back up what Matt said. Almost everything you said I could do in my garage minus the struts.Save the 8 grand for something else, put down for a house, later down the road for another car. But if you do end up with a new car, don't get a Z34. I love mine to death but if I had money for a newer car I'd definitely get it. Much less problems. I really like the new Impalas and I think Madbrad will back me up whenever he replies. lol Truck-wise, the Silverados are good and if they're too big the Colorados are also really good.

Whatever you do, if you have 8 gs to spend, don't buy something that's more than 8 grand. I bought my z for about 7 when it was only 4 years old. You should be able to find something very reliable in your price range. GM wbody FTW. Never been into trucks. A lot of them are slow and get bad gas mileage. And how often would you actually haul stuff in it.

I vote for a 98-99 Monte Z34. Great gas mileage and good power, especially for its day and age. Plus, they are VERY reliable and affordable.

If I could find it for a good price with good mileage, I would take one in a heart beat. Right now, my ride is ok. I'll see how it goes for the winter and go from there.

Rear struts are cake on these. 5 bolts and they're out, spring compressor and one nut and you can swap them.
