i took the car into the shop to get my 97monte fixed it was leaking antifreeze and oil and the lifters were raddling really bad when cold. so i got it back and there was 4 lifters collapsed and fix the LIM and he said that the motor was sluggie inside and i change the oil ever 3,000 miles so im plan on running a lighter weight of oil so my question is what weight of oil do you all run

and my car is running like a champ now haha

around here there is no need to change motor oil weights from summer to winter. 5W30 will do fine year round. I would suggest a seafoam treatment in the oil about 500 miles before your next oil change. Also I recommend alwasy getting good oil and using an S10 filter. No more oil is needed but it does filter more.

You can get by with using "house" brand oil if you ask the parts store who makes thier oil for them. Our Napa brand is made for us by valvoline and thats what i use on my 3100. when i swap to the 3800 it'll our synthetic. And check your oil every two weeks or so. Or every fill up like i do

I use 10/30 in both montes year round but did the seafoam treatment once before changing the oil when i bought them. Never had a problem....we live in nc so it`s hot here in the summer which made me go 10/30.

5w30 and 10w30 are essentially the exact same weight of oil during the summer. they are multiviscosity oils with different winter weights and the same summer weight.

just run a 5w30 year round. i always ran valvoline conventional 5w30 up to 100,000 miles and then i switched over to valvoline high mileage 5w30...paired the high mileage with a bosch filter and never had any issues on that end...the lower gaskets and the head gasket went out...but never had a problem with the oil or anything. and...when i switched to the high mileage oil i swear to god this is true...my lifter noise all but vanished and my piston slap noise significantly quieted.
