95 3.1 Monte Ls Problems overheating belt problems Rate Topic: -----

When it overheats, bleed your system completely. Then see if it overheats again, and bleed the system. If you keep getting air in the system you could possibly have a headgasket issue.

It's why I got rid of my 95 Lumina 6 years ago. I drove 8 miles and overheated 3 times and bled 3 times. I wasn't dealing with that anymore and didn't feel like doing the work (regret it now) sold the car for $100 to a mechanic friend and got a beater until I paid for the Monte.

make sure your belt is routed correctly, i have seen people put them over the water pump, so they turn it the wrong direction, and it doesnt do much like that

Could be a bad t-stat, air in the system, or a bad intake or head gasket

You say the belt comes off the tensioner...when the belt is on, does it track irratically when the engine is running? If so the tensioner is not inline with the other pulleys.
