I believe the oil pump is shot on my sons 1998 3100 Lumina. My question is will the oil pan drop straight down without too much trouble.

the pan is kinda lame to remove on those engines...i think the book specifies removing a buncha stuff etc. i was gonna do it on my old 3100, but swapped engines instead :-) to be sure the oil pump is shot, u can connect a pressure gauge to the oil pres. sending port (left of the oil filter). u should have no less than 15 psi at 1100 rpm. usually i good pump will push like 30-40 psi at idle. hope that helps
