I've never seen a car of this size and age with no battery tray. It's a supper low mileage car and from the look of the wal-mart battery, a wal-mart shop installed the new battery, semi-stripped the air cleaner screw, and put in the hold dwon but the battery is sitting directly on the inner-fender with no battery tray. If you guys could check yours and verify mine is suppose to have a battery tray it would be greatly appreciated!

Mine is sitting right on the Unibody. There's no lipped up edges around the battery currently whatsoever. I'll try to get a pic or so tomorrow and put it up on a photobucket link.

They all have the same type tray. Mines a 99 and has one.

My '99 Z34 has a tray. Of course the tray holds the battery level. If the tray is removed in your MC the battery would tip to the right & forward. How is your battery staying in place?

Also in a stock setup (which mine is) the battery is hidden below the windshield washer tank, and on top of that by the left cross chassis brace.

Well folks, I couldn't get a great pic but got one:



It's hard seeing down in there without taking alot of the stuff out like the washer tank and such. I'm not use to them being painted the body color. Are these spot welded to the unibody?

Thank you for the reply Dave. I was really hoping it wasn't spot welded in. I've seen plenty of replaceable ones in the newer monte carlo's & impala's that are w-body's. Oh well, I guess that's the price to pay in this generation of Monte. It only has 27K on the car after driving it back from Iowa to here in PA. Like I said it has very low mileage.

So I guess you found your battery tray! The one thing to watch is rust/corrosion. If you have your battery out, clean up the tray, spray some WD40 all over it (to chase out any water).

On stripped threads, that's why I work on my own car. Many of those "techs" (what they like to be called nowadays) don't give a rats a**. Strip threads, break things and then cover up. Zoom, zoom get the job done.

Only a couple things that I'm forced to let anybody touch my car. State inspections and tire install. And I cringe on each!
