I'm so sorry that I didn't see this thread before but I wanted to let you know nitehawk that you have my support and if you need anything (money, funny vids, thoughts/prayers), just let us know. I will take a look at the link in your sig to see if there is anything that I need or that someone that I know will need.

Also, like 3800power, I'm a devout Christian and I do believe that everything happens for a reason, just sometimes we don't know what that reason is. This thread has kinda turned into a thread of pain from the looks of things, and I just want to say that everyone who has shown their personal problems in this thread are in my prayers. Don't loose hope you guys.

Nitehawk, I'm glad to hear that she's handling the chemo and I'm VERY impressed with your love and devotion to your wife. Keep up the great work!

Buck you sir are classic. She's doing much better now, but round 2 is Wednesday... I'm definitely doing everything I can to keep her smiling, laughing, spirits up. That includes cookin, cleanin, the works. ;)

Zipper, thanks for your support and checking out the business. Just knowing that people care is what helps me keep up, and you guys are great.

Scott, 3800power knows how I see things. No biggie, he has sent his thoughts/prayers. That's what matters.

Terribly sorry to hear about this. i will be checking back often to see updates.

at a time like this, i bet your wife is more thankful than she ever could be to have someone like you with her and caring for her. i think it's awesome what you're doing, starting up an online business and whatnot. along with all the house work and keeping her happy and healthy. good for you bro. when this is all said and done, and you guys are both happy and healthy, both of you will be happy to see how much love was exchanged between the both of you, your families, and everyone here. :) i'm here for you man, if you need anything i'll be more than happy to help

with that said, i absolutely hate healthcare and insurance companies. i don't see how they have a good conscience after charging someone hundreds and thousands of dollars because they are either physically or mentally sick or unable. that is so wrong. i realize we need to keep everyone working, but for gods sake, we need to be able to provide for our families too.. but i'll end that right there.

I know Im kinda new here so i feel like a bit of an outsider putting my input in on your buisness, so ill keep it short and not tell the whole story,

When i was 18 I had a tenderness in my chest, it didnt go away so I went to a doctor...he said it was gynecomastia, nothing to worry about, and he sent me on my way. I got home and looked it up, it said in rare cases its a symptom of testicular cancer, I was frightened but thought, nah, couldnt happen to me, a few days went by and I was getting worried, I felt numb so i made an appointment to see a urologist, the week of the appointment i lost health insurance, so i cancled, this was july 2009. As time went by i noticed it getting bigger and more sore, it wasnt until june 2010 i couldnt take it anymore, I didnt care about insurence, I had to see a doctor, I went in on a tuesday, they wanted on the surgery table thursday, we ended up waiting an extra week cause the surgen was going away, when he got back i had my first surgery. Its was a testicular cancer, but all my blood work was comming back negative so we figured everything was good, until the byopsy came back. Turns out it wasnt just a basic cancer, it was a rare, agressive type called a Primitive neuroectodermal tumor, I fell into the 10% of cancers that dont make tumor markers, i went for more scans, everything looked clean, it was still suggested I had a Lymphadenectomy (fancy way to say, lymph node removal) just to be sure, so after giving it though, i decided it was for the best, october 2010 i was back on the table, i woke up with bandaged up from the v where my ribs meet to my belt line. I spent 4 days in the hospital, i was determined to get better, so without taking pain meds after i was out, i was getting better. I got a call from the surgen, it want good news, he told me he just got the report back, as clean as it looked while he was in there, there was 1 node infected, just one, it was about 1/8 of an inch tumor, so before i was even out of the bandages, I was in a chemo chair november 12th 2010, a day before my birthday, now keep in mind the agression part of this bad boy. the first cycle was a one day treatment. I got adriamycin, cytoxan, and vincristine, this cycle takes about 7, 8 hours, you feel ok the day you get it but the following few days, is undescribeable, its a sh*tty that ive neve felt before. So three weeks later, my next cycle, 5 days in that damn chair, the c*cktail this time isifosfamide and etoposide, this was about a 10 hour day, plus the drive, so about a 11 ,12 hour day. Acually, if it wasnt for the long days, this cycle wasnt as bad. So I went through the teatments, I finished jaunary 22, 2011, just over a year ago, So far so good, Im 21 years old and my girlfriend of 4 years who stuck by me through the whole thing is now my fiance, even with the surgerys and tretments, these past few years have been awesome. Im not sure if i could have done it all alone.

So, more on point, its much easier with someone there, and i mean this in a nice way, be there and push her to do well and get better, Its weird but you feel like crap sitting around and think if you get up and do something, you will feel even worse, thats not the case, after being pushed and going out and doing stuff is when I felt the best, I guess it got my mind off of it, keeping a positive attitude, staying active, and having someone there with you is the best thing for you.

I wish the both of you the best of luck, keep your heads high, dont let anything get the best of you
We are all rooting for you

Maybe this was a little long, its most of the story but not all.
P.s. wanting to write this is pretty much the push that made me stop creeping and actually make an account haha

Thanks blackbeauty, I appreciate that. :)

98LlLumina, thanks for some insight from somebody who's been there... It's definitely not an enviable situation to be in. Glad to hear you're doing well after everything. And no worries, just because you're new here doesn't mean I value your input any differently than anybody else's. Thanks again.

Update: couldn't do the chemo yesterday... Her white blood count was down too much, so postponed til next Wednesday. Now she'll have to get "blood booster" shots which make your bones hurt so she can have a higher white cell count.

Why end it there? My goodness mercy me ... that rant could take on a whole life of its own. I know from personal experience. Those of us with physical or mental or health-related issues, caused by NO fault of our own, are stuck with so many medical bills and "red tape" to cut/hammer/bite/saw through, that it almost begs the question of, "Why bother?" Those with NO medical issues of their own really cannot empathize or have ANY clue as to how it is like to have to balance basic needs along with paying for medical procedures that are just as necessary to stay alive. Then, of course, come the comments like, "Well, you don't LOOK sick." Please. You don't HAVE to LOOK sick to BE sick. Anyone who believes otherwise ... well, you know what type of dealer you should go see RIGHT NOW.

Warned ya'll, didn't I?

is she getting one shot or multiple shots? once her joints get inflammed from the medicine, try using aleve as opposed to any narcotics you may have been prescribed. the aleve work on that inflammation and the percocet/oxy/etc do not. also a heatpad may help. as you probably know there are only experimental drugs for raising platlets which can also delay treatment. my doctor advised that beer can help platlets. we havent found any supporting documentation but i have to say having a beer or two after treatment made me ready for the next! hope its going as well as can be.

Thanks for your continued support & prayer Cort.

She only gets one "shot" for the blood booster... Doctor says to take Claritin and it will help for some reason or another... Well Claritin didn't help and she was in pain and nauseous from the shot for a few days.

As far as the actual chemo, she has 4 different meds "ABVD".

Quite a bit of her hair is coming out... You can't really tell, but she was upset with it. Understandably upset. If she keeps losing hair, I'm shaving my head for support. But I guess we just take it one day at a time...

Hi Jon...just gettin in here after a few weeks off...trying to get used to the new forum pages..lol...anyway,how u guys doing with the chemo? I`ve read the posts. After Cin has been doing this chemo thing for a month now I can say she`s doing fairly well. I sincerely hope u guys are too. I thought I might have seen u guys in the office one day but was not sure. We go on Wednesday`s. I know exactly what u mean about the bills and all that. I`ve been missing some payments on my mortgage here and it`s been a real bi***. But we`re just concentrating on the present....day by day is all we can do right now. Keep the lights on and have some heat. Have food to eat. And above all take care of her and yourself...YOURSELF...if u don`t,u can`t do what is important for her or u. Livin it now and I know. I do everything around here now...wash dishes, bills, work, she can`t hardly drive so we go together all the time now. But if u look at it like a lifestyle change,it`s a little bit easier to handle. This may seem harsh but this is what works for us as we know this will soon be past and then we can pick up where we left off. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to get this out and I hope it helps u guys some...Please take care....

Hey Bobby, we're doing as good as we can be doing all things considered. Her hair is coming out quite a bit now, but it may just thin out. I guess time will tell. We got another round of chemo tomorrow, gotta be there at 9 AM. We go every other Wednesday. I think I saw your car last time we went, but if you saw us we were sitting in the first chairs you can sit in, away from the rest of the chairs. She wanted to sit there, so there we sat. But we're doing well, I do a lot around the house, she sure is stubborn though - I got home after work yesterday and she had almost finished cooking dinner lol. Can't keep her down, she's strong.

And no worries, I know what you're saying. Not harsh or anything, just telling it like it is. Thanks for checking up with us, we meet with the doctor tomorrow to get a progress report or some sh*t, so I'll update the thread then most likely. You two take care as well.

We go to Duke again on the 8th of March for an eval. Cin has been saying she`s getting some feeling in her face again which is a BIG PLUS. I really think u guys were at the office that day with us...we were over by that door that takes u to the infusion area. I was probably readin a book...lol. Please take care and if we can help out in any way let me know. B&C

It definitely is a plus that she's getting some feeling, if you don't mind my asking, what's she being treated for, and how many treatments? It's not as long of a treatment as Dawn's is, we were there from 9 am til about 3 pm. Every two weeks for 9 more treatments. I was in and out a few times, and every time I headed out you were reading a book - and I don't like people interrupting me when I'm into a book, so I never bother people that are reading. lol

I appreciate that. You're a good man, and I hope you know that offer goes for you two as well.

keep positive. there is a light at the end of the tunnel. on friday i finished my 6th week of radiation and the week before that finished the 14th half cycle of chemo. everyday is getting better and the side effects are already starting to fade. of course it will take time and tests to see the effectiveness but it is something to look forward too. its been 11 months since they found the tumor. 9 months since the cancer diagnosis. it feels like years but keep on keeping on and hopefully it will all be behind you soon. ive tried not to be down and feel sorry for myself. after the halfway mark it got harder due to the drug buildup but easier due to repitition and looking forward to an end. youre in my thoughts.

Thank you gordornr. I hope everything is going well with you as well, and you are in my thoughts also. Cancer is a terrible thing, I don't wish this on anybody, it's definitely a struggle. Dawn just had her 5th treatment this past Wednesday, so one more and she'll be halfway done. She is losing more hair with every treatment though, so I'm sure she's going to just want to shave it soon and I'll be right there with her bald as a champ lol. But she's doing really well with everything (except for the nausea, of course). But we will keep on keepin on... it's no easy task though that's for sure. Thanks again.

good luck as you approach the halfway point. i shaved it once it started showing up on the pillow. i switched to zofran for nausea and it was a big help. generic is called onadesterone. ginger ale too. its only been three days since treatment is over but what a difference. and im also looking at a beautiful 06 ss which helps my mood.

Bingo.

Too many people I've known have suffered death by cancer. Just is NOT fair ... and cancer doesn't care who it touches.

thank you for the kind words. i plan on attending a relay for life with a large group of family and friends to raise funds for the american cancer society. i plan to make posters for those who have beaten, currently fighting, and have passed from any form of cancer. if anyone would like to add their names just let me know. id recommend first name and last initial and which poster to add to for proper recognition and prayers.

Keep us posted about that relay for life. Not sure that I could donate too much right now (since I'm unemployed), but I can see what I can do. Thoughts/prayers continuing, of course....
