Like the subject says.  We need to make a new FAQ for the tranny forum.  I would like all of you to reply to this topic with a FAQ and the answer.  Everyone that posts will be credited in the FAQ.  Feel free to add to other member's posts in this topic and also add to your own.  The FAQ will follow the following format (your posts don't have to follow the format, I will edit/consoldate/organize your replies into the FAQ when I update it, I'm just giving you an example):

Q. What Transmission does my car have?

A. The model of the transmission in your car should be stamped on the bottom of your transmission fluid pan.  Either 4T60E or 4T65E.

Submitter: ta79mc95

etc., etc., etc.

Happy posting!

Hopefully we will have the old FAQ and your specs post pinned at the top soon.  If you do a search you can find it, I just don't have the ability to pin posts yet.  As soon as Joe gets more stuff straightened out on the board I will bring everything back up and make it nice and pretty.

Most of the 60E's don't have anything stamped in the pan, as an FYI...at least none of the ones I've found myself under.

Both my Monte, my mom's old Lumina, a Buick Century, and my Regal (though, admittedly, that was a 440T4) didn't have anything. The 4T65-E's I've seen had it (An '00 Regal I found myself under is one example), but none of the 60's. Maybe its the luck of the draw?

How hard would it be to switch the 4t60e in my '96 Monte to a 4t65e/HD, assuming I'm switching from a 3100 to a 3400? (The L36/67 is obviously not difficult, but the question still remains for the 3400)

2000 Cadillac Eldorado ETC:
Bone stock. Staying that way, save for an in-car computer and a set of nicer wheels. MAYBE an exhaust. I can't decide if I like the quietness of a Caddy, or the sound of a V8 better.

1985 Pontiac Fiero 2m4
Speedometer delete, side intake scoop, transmission fluid purge valve, Brick™ catalytic converter, restrictor heads, 95 horsepower of pure FURY from an Iron Duke. (It's stock. It's a work in progress. Leave me alone.)

no its not bad. In fact that is how you are supposed to put your car into gear.
Whats bad is when you are driving a manual and "riding" the clutch while slowing or coasting.

Bringing up an old thread is not a problem, that's what the forum is for...however, our new member glory here is a spam bot. A somewhat advanced spam bot, but, still a spam bot nonetheless.
